Funny how God works sometimes. I’m wearing my “Alien” shirt which as the verse of Christ on it, saying, “They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Joh 17:16. Then for my devotion, I read this:
Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul.
Interesting, huh?
The devo was a good one, but I don’t want to restate the devo, but I did want to point out something that never occurred to be from the 1 Peter verse, war.
What is war? A major conflict in which there are major causalities, loss of life and destruction. We are in a battle with the devil in which he wants us to come back to his way of life. The one that leads to death in the end. And since we’ve already been there before, he entices us with those past “pleasures”. He takes out all the big guns and will take down anyone to get just one more soul to burn with him forever. He destroys lives, families, cities, nations, the world. It is a war and the only way we can win is if we follow a good leader. One that is victorious. He is our only hope and that is something that the Holy Spirit reminded me of.
We are in war with the lusts of this world, and I battle with a certain sin that is tough from my past life. And I fail when I remove my gaze from my Commander. I’m reminded of the Israelites in the wilderness who battled the serpent. If the serpent bit them on the ankle, they died. But, if they looked to Mose’s staff with the snake wrapped around it, they lived. They only had to keep their gazed fixed upon that staff. Their Commander. When they looked away, the world and it’s lust got them. The devil took them away.
Look to the Commander and Saviour of your soul. Look to Him and never look away. When you look away from the source of light, all else is darkness and in darkness, evil lurks. War is with us and we shall be victorious!
