I heard about this news and just couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Actually, as liberal as Washington has become, ya, I believed it, just was sad that this day has come.
So, what happened? Well a case was over turned because the key evidence that was used to convict the defendant came from a mother who eavesdropped her daughters conversation with the defendant. Since Washington has a little law that states you can not use any evidence from a phone conversation, regardless of age of the person on the phone, the defendant got to walk. The mother was simply listening to her daughters calls since she was deep with suspicion of the person the daughter was talking to. Since the boy was an ex-convicted criminal, she was being a good, cautious, protective parent. What she heard in these conversations was used against him in court. What the mother did was illegal. Can you believe that?
“What’s so magic about turning 18? All of a sudden you get rights. All of a sudden you’re a full human being. What about when you’re 17, 16-and-a-half? What about children who are emancipated?” wonders attorney Michael Tario.[Full Text]
What cracks me up about this quote is how either naive Tario is or plain stupid. Last I checked, when one turns 18, they become an adult. An adult can vote. Minors can not. Thus, minors could not, for one, vote on any laws such as the one mother violated or protest one politically. They are a minor. So Mr. Tario, if you don’t see the “magic” in that, how may I ask did you pass the bar with it’s much more complex issues? You are simply a liberal who would rather hurt society then protect it for a buck. Sad.
