Tonight we had our goodbye party with all the exchange students at the learning center (a.k.a. the church) and after some yummy Japanese cooked meals provided by the students and an entertaining time of shows, each student said a little message after receiving their diploma. Now when I say little, I really mean, little.
Maybe a line or two is all they got out but it was all full of sweetness just the same. Liz and I kept saying Tomomi wouldn’t say anything due to her shyness and properness but to our surprise, she did say something. One of the lines she said made us smile…and laugh. She said, “I will forget you forever.”
Is that a riot or what?
We know what she meant and we were touched by her being able to even say anything. So even if the true meaning got lost in language, in never got lost in translation from her heart to ours.
Now we have to get up in six hours to take her back so that she can go home to Japan. Wow, what a fast and great month it’s been. This will be a tough day for Joshua and Katelyn and I’m sure for Liz and myself, too. I sense Tomomi will have difficulty, too.
Okay, I have to finish some work and then off to bed.
