Last night, we had a scare — well, Katelyn did — where we couldn’t find Summer during dinner. He finally appeared after dinner to Katelyn’s relief.
After I put the kids to bed, I went out to view Mars and it’s dust storm. Taking out the telescope on it’s stand required me to have the sliding door wide open. I had locked up Sunny, but didn’t see Summer. I took out the telescope and pretty sure didn’t see Summer escape. Outside of every neighbor thinking last night that having their upstairs lights on and someone having those big movie premiere lights crossing the sky, I did get to see the storms, but barely. I packed up and went in about ten minutes later.
I watched the Steelers vs Bengal’s game and then wen to bed at about midnight. Summer was still no where to be seen but Sunny had been with me the whole time. We went upstairs and I went to bed.
At about 3:30, I woke up and found Sunny on my pillow but still now Summer. “Ok, this is just weird, ” I thought to myself and went looking for him. Thinking he may have got outside when I moved the telescope out, I searched for him in the backyard. Calling his name, he never appeared. I started calling for him downstairs, searching room to room. I then went to the children’s room, calling quietly, and nothing. I then heard him crying. I went to my office but the meow became faint. I went back toward Joshua’s room and the cries grew stronger. I went into his room and they became faint once again. “Where the heck is he?” I wondered. I went toward the hallway bathroom and the cries became obvious that he was in the bathroom — somewhere. I kept calling him to make him keep a constant cry to better locate him. I opened all of the cabinets and found nothing. I was perplexed. All that was left were drawers. Okay, let’s open them. One by one I opened them. Finally, on the last drawer where we put our wash cloths, there was Summer!
Now how did he get in there? First thought — blame — that came to mind was Joshua. But as I brought Summer into our room and began to throw up (I rushed into the bathroom to let him vomit on the tile) I couldn’t think of a time Joshua could have done it. On the way down the stairs to bring Summer to his water dish it dawned on me.
Prior to going out to view Mars, I went to the bathroom. Both cats came in and I wasn’t keen on that. I shoved them out of the toilet closet but they remained in the bathroom part. I had left the bottom magazine drawer open and then after my business was completed, I put my Macworld back in the drawer and closed it. Effectively trapping Summer. Whoops.
Long story, well guess that wasn’t short, anyway, Liz and I decided not to tell Katelyn. After her freaking out last night, this would just give her more ammo to really go nuts next time he goes missing. I found Summer at 3:30 and finally feel back asleep at 5:00 a.m. and dude, I’m a bit tired. But hey, at least I got our cat out of the bathroom drawer a mere eight hours after being trapped in there. You’d think he would have cried without encouragement from me calling him, huh? Cats…
