Wow, Sony really, I mean really, blew it with their XCP protection scheme they put on some 52 CD’s. Looks like the company that makes XCP actually uses some open source software — in direct violation of GNU — to do it’s dirty work. Irony of irony is that DVD Jon, the guy that broke DVD’s encryption scheme, is the one that wrote part of the code XCP is using illegally! Can you believe this?
I think Sony is going to feel a major back lash on this. I’m glad, too. This DRM crud is getting way out of hand and if the labels think they can pull a “fast one” on us, well now they’re seeing first hand that’s not possible. With three pending lawsuits on Sony’s hiney and the US Government now even looking into this, I think Sony is really regretting their stupid choice to “stick it to the consumer”. Now it’s them that are getting stuck and I hope no just them, but all labels learn a valuable lesson: stop messing with OUR music!
