Boy, slap me in the head for not thinking and seeing the obvious in this one! Your iPod has a disk drive in it and if you’re moving stuff on and off of it in a high volume, that hard drive is becoming fragmented. Just like your desktop computer, read times are slowed down as the head searches all over the platters looking for your data spread throughout. Using a standard defragment program, like that in Windows XP’s Disk Management, you’ll be able to speed things up and make your iPod peepy once again!
