I tell you, it’s when things like this that happen to me that makes me dread Java. The software that was touted as the “write once, run anywhere” never has seemed to live up to that title and hence the reason I avoid Java like I avoid saying “Microsoft Works”. But when you’re trying to access your Windows box from a Mac, Java is your only option. Unfortunately, OS X Tiger just doesn’t want to do Java right and I can’t log into my Windows box remotely. From what I’ve read on the forums on the web, only those running any OS X version, other then Tiger, can get this to work. I’ve heard alot of Tiger problems but have not seen them for myself, but now, I do. Ugh. What a total bummer, too. I even tried to install Java for Linux in hopes that would help and I get “permission denied” at the prompt even though I am root. Joy.
I tell you, I love OS X but when little things like Java, based on UNIX, doesn’t run on a *NIX OS well, there’s a problem, folks. This is the kind of thing I expect from Microsoft, not Apple. I really hope this gets fixed soon as I’d love to use my TiBook on the road instead of my Dell but if I can’t access my machine with Tiger, then I have to go with the cat at the window.

LogmeIn works with OSX 10.3??? I thought it was Windows only on both sides! Did they add OS X support recently?

No this for the viewer only. The remotely controlled machine still is only Windows. I’m thinking when OSx386 is out, we’ll see a Mac remote control version, too.

ah..ok. I didn’t even know the viewer worked, thanks, I’ll check it out.
Apple should get this to work-it would make the whole Switching thing just that much easier to transition to.

Try using the free Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) software for Mac from Microsoft. http://www.Microsoft.com/mac
It works for WinXP computers, allows you to remotely control the PC from your Mac.
I use it every day.

I do use RDC for my server but not my desktop. Reason is is RDC opens a new session and does not display your current state. I need true desktop control, not remote login. But maybe I’m doing this wrong, so if I am, please let me know how to do this!
