Wow, what a sad and unfortunate sorry. My heart goes out to that boys parents. How hard that must be.

Yes, safety was a top priority and I spend hours reading and reviewing. This is a very safe heater and nothing did catch on fire...just melted. :) When I was cleaning it, I noticed that when I tipped it, the heater immediately turned off. Nice feature. It also is well protected from curious fingers. Over all, I'd say this is a very safe heater but I hear what you're saying. Your advice is good and welcomed. Thank you.

Boys can be trouble makers indeed. I've got two little guys: 3 1/2 & almost 2 year old. They get into trouble every chance they can. I've been thinking of getting space heaters as well, before last month. A friend & coworkers 3 year old son started a fire in his room with a lighter that he shouldn't have gotten a hold of. Sadly, this tragedy ended his life as he died from smoke inhalation. He was suppose to be taking a nap, but as I'm sure you're aware, toddlers can be a handful. Especially after reading your fortunately more harmless experience, I've changed my perspective on space heaters. I'll stick with my higher gas bill, although in Southern California it isn't as much of a problem.

Be safe, and hug your kids, and test out those smoke detectors in your childrens rooms.
