Ugh, talk about lagging. While Cingular and Verizon are just about done with its 3G roll out, T-Mobile is still MIA on that page. Now from the horses mouth, T-Mobile ain’t going to have that 3G speed in your handset until, like, 2007! T-Mobile’s senior vice president of Engineering Operations Neville Ray told Betanews, “We are very hopeful that by the end of 2006, and definitely in 2007, we’d be able to bring 3G services to the market. Some of this is auction dependent.” Here’s the kicker quote: “We’re hopefully looking at a 3G deployment in late 2006.” Late 2006?! Dude, have you ever known any company to do anything on time with something of this magnitude? Not me and having been a Cingular customer back in the day when it was Pacific Bell Mobile, I can tell you all about the ‘we are looking for deployment in…’ statements.
It’s a shame, because I think T-Mobile is a good company over all. Way better customer service then Cingular and its selection of hardware is starting to improve. Hey, where else can you get a pink RAZR? But I tell you, if T-Mobile continues to lag and not get its network up to speed — and date — then the rumors of Deutsche Telekom dumping its American arm may come back, very soon.
