The title is a bit of a misleading one since this is really a cross-platform audio editor, but hey, you can get just about everything for Windows, so who cares.
Audacity is a great audio editor that has the power of Dodge Hemi behind it. When you take a look under the hood, you’ll keep scratching your head trying to figure out just how this is free. You’ll keep thinking, ‘It’s for a limited time only.’ But no limit; it’s all good. So what does $0.00 get ya? Well a nice little VU meter, an easier to use button bar, separate pan and gain per track, track preview of an effect before you commit to it, and 16-bit, 24-bit and 32-bit audio support. That’s not counting its powerful plug-in engine which then allows for just about anything to be done. Mmm, okay, you still can’t edit iTunes Music Store purchased tracks but hey, you never know what the JHymn team may do.
If you’re in need for a great editor for either the Mac or Windows (or Linux,) then take a look at Audacity. It’s nice and powerful and best of all, it’s free.
