Tis the season to be jolly and Sony I guess realizes after some excess egg nog with a bit of sushi (hey, it’s a Japanese company,) that its ATRAC thing just ain’t going to catch on. Soooo, Sony has released firmware update 2.01 for the NW-A1000/1200/3000 digital audio players. This update allows user to play WMA’s with a sampling frequency of 44.1 KHz at various bit rates. The only downer for you Windows Media fans is that this update will not play copyrighted protected files such as those from Napster or Rhapsody. But hey, it’s a start, right?
