I can remember when CDR’s first came out. Man, first the burners themselves where bank. Second, the media was just as bad in price. With those two paired, having errors on your burned discs sucked. I became very conscious to buy the right burner and the right media.
Well we’re back to that scenario with DVD burners. The hardware itself isn’t as bad as it was with CDR’s since a lot of that technology has matured and crossed into DVD’s but you should be cautious of stuff like Hi-Value. The media, that still applies in some regard and since DVD recordables are costly things to make coasters with, a chart of good media is a well needed thing and by George, I’ve found such a list!
The Recordable DVD Quality list found on CDR Zone’s site breaks it down into four categories. They are Premium Media, Recommended Media, Budget Media, and Landfill Media. I was a bit surprised not to find Apple on the list anywhere, so the must mean Apple gets it from someone else. Verbatim? Anyway, the list is very complete and very detailed. There are brands on here I’ve never heard of (and not all bad) which tells me that CDR Zone didn’t just go to Best Buy and pick up a few testers. This site did its home work and I think it is us that will benefit from it.
Now excuse me while I check and pray that 50 spindle DVD-R’s I just bought for $30 are in the landfill media group.
