Hey, here’s a rumor to add to the already busy wheels of Macworld: Apple will reveal its first tablet computer. Ya, with the new Intel chips inside and with the ability to keep heat down and speed up, it would only makes sense, right? I mean I’ve been trying to figure out what huge announcement Steve Jobs would have for the keynote attendants and none of what I came up with (or what I’ve read elsewhere,) equaled the surprise of previous years. But fact is, there IS going to be a big announcement this January. I know it to be true and I think a tablet is right up there in the huge category.
What will the tablet pack? Easily 2GHz-plus chip with 512MB of RAM. Probably an 80GB hard drive. Let’s see, Wi-Fi (no brainer,) and most likely Bluetooth 2.0. Maybe a Front Row like remote for its Keynote presentations when hooked up to a monitor or LCD projector. You know, got to be different then the other boys in town.
So, will it be an iTablet or a PowerTablet? I say an iTablet. I think this will be the low-end release at Macworld and the high-end will be the PowerBook. I’m still on record for a PowerBook release since this is one of Apple’s most aging and hurting product line. Since the Aluminum, northing’s really been happening here on the PowerBook and now with new power to put under the hood, I see it coming back.
Okay kiddies, let the ultra-cool tablet come!

A tablet is one of the things I’ve heard clamored for a lot on various blogs and Apple sites. It would make sense, because the ease-of-use would kick open doors to new markets for Apple — think hospitals.

Not iTablet… not PowerTablet… but… iPad!
Sorry, couldn’t resist
Where did you get this rumor? Seems like kind of a long shot to me, though I’d love to see it of course…

Yes, I’ve already seen a great use of Windows XP for Tablet at hospitals here in the Bay Area. I’ve asked one doctor how he liked it and he said he liked it “but there’s bugs to work out.” I didn’t probe him to elaborate, but I can guess what those problems are.
Mart, that was a good one!
Why not bank on a successful thing, right?
I have my sources but no one’s saying anything is “for sure”. It’s all rumor and I’m just feeding the flames.

You mean a Newton again finally
IMHO it will probably be a low end keyboard + swivel touch screen thingimagic no more than 8″ in screen size. Hard disk 100GB or more. No mouse for keyboard but some kind of IBM “nipple” thingi. Needs to store more than iPod and have sufficient horsepower to view videos and pics.
Just my 2 sens.
