Motorola"s interest in Global Locate shows that the Schaumburg, Illinois based company is keen on improving its A-GPS and has found a manufacturer that it wishes to continue to use more for its own products.
"Global Locate is a compelling addition to our portfolio of cutting-edge technology investments," said Warren Holtsberg, corporate vice president, equity investments, Motorola. "Global Locate"s technology is highly complementary with Motorola"s vision of seamless mobility and we are pleased to support the company with this strategic investment."
Congress passed a bill requiring all new cell phone manufacturers to install and activate A-GPS on new phones in order to assist 911 centers in knowing where exactly the distressed call was coming from. Phase II of the law required carriers to be able to pinpoint a 911 caller"s location to within 50 to 300
meters.
