Apple to Go AMD In Two Years

Apple was in talks with AMD nearly two years ago, just before the Intel talks began. The reason for leaving AMD for Santa Clara’s famed company was the issue of power consumption on notebook computers. AMD’s was, and is, a drain on power while Intel wasn’t. Yet in every other facet, AMD excels over Intel. When AMD releases its lower power hungry notebook chip, guess what? Apple will go AMD.

With OS X made for the x86 instruction set, jumping to the AMD chip won’t be any more difficult then current Windows users do today for their PC’s. It’s just a matter of time before Apple will desire to jump onto the company that many in the industry are saying is ‘years ahead of Intel’. SvenOnTech can tell you without pause, that will happen in just a couple of years. Macworld ‘09. :)

“…guess what? Apple will go Intel.”

I think you mean the opposite :-)

    Peace and love.

    Apple has already gone Intel.

If Apple went AMD we’d still be waiting for the transition due to the lack of a chipset, integrated graphics, wireless, and other things that you get “for free” buying from Intel. Apple may go AMD when they decide to start designing their own motherboards again, but it would mean higher costs and longer lead times.

Ooops, guess I shouldn’t write in the middle of the night just before driving 15 hours to Tucson. :) Thanx everyone for the correction.

apple has shifted to intel chips few months back saying they were not satisfied by IBM

So you’re saying that AMD is “years head of intel”, yet intel has a quad core chip coming, like, this year. Sure, with the move to x86 there is little to prevent them from switching to AMD either in part or in full, but there is little reasoning to make them do that over the deals they’re most likely getting on the intel chips (remember that pc mini rip off that cost $100 more than the mini?) and the fact that they’re most likely going to have everyone salivating over a dual processor quad core (Arachnid?) Power Mac replacement. since the low end is also being serviced in this deal, I don’t see why they would want to switch to AMD, but then again in 2 years, who knows what will happen, I mean did you see any of this coming 5 years ago? wait g4 tower time would be a bad example… anyways that’s enough ranting…
