Here we are, two months after everyone and every blog kept saying a media center Mac was coming and yet, no media center Mac. Where is it? Is that what is coming April 1st? Will Apple woo us with the ultimate digital hub like no other? Maybe. If you put all the rumors together about all this media center and iPod docking (Mac mini) together, it just might have a little truth in it.

With Intel heavily pushing it’s Viiv chip on radio and TV with snazzy lustful commercials that are vague enough to let a Mac fit in snuggly (though the Viiv homepage shows Windows MCE on it,) it just might happen. Remember, Steve Jobs has been saying for years how it’s all about the digital hub and in reality, Apple has no hub…yet. With a new a box that will let your iPod sit on top, ala the iPod Hi-Fi, fronts FrontRow, will have gobs of hard drive space, sports wireless networking, includes a TV tuner (HD?!), and yes, has a Viiv chip, it would all bring Jobs famed phrase to the lime light.

Yes, look for Viiv to buy its way into a Mac real soon. Sure, it’s a dorky name for a chip with an equally dorky spelling, but that won’t stop Apple from putting an i in front of it. ;)

Sven, did you miss the Apple mini with intel processor and Front Row with Bonjour? Think about it. It IS the Apple media centre. It’s just a different concept. Remember this is Apple not Microsoft. An airport express with video streaming will never arrive because it has no user interface software for a tv interface. You need Front Row as your interface so you need a light PC.

Apple will most likely go their own way. As for Viiv, part of the Intel spec requirement to be a part of Viiv as a manufacturer, you MUST be running Windows MCE; by definition, no Mac Viiv.

The media center is a geek concept, requiring consumers to all sprout beanies and become home network admins just to watch TV. That’s not where Apple’s going. Ever watched a noob try to use a media center to watch TV? Hilarious.

…and if anyone knows about dorky spelling! ;)

Just curious, what’s with April 1st? That’s a Saturday. Apple does the vast majority of their announcements on Tuesdays.
