Hey, need to get Office onto a computer that doesn’t have a CD-ROM or network card? Ya, all 430MB of it. Well the KGB has got a compression tool for you, my friend. Taking that bloat of 400 plus megabytes, KGB Archiver gets it all down to a mere 1.44 MB, perfect for any floppy made since the late 80’s. Only problem is it’s going to take some heavy duty hardware to shrink that fat pig into small strips of bacon. So that means once you’ve got it on the floppy and move it over to the legacy-ware of a computer, chances are it ain’t getting back to it’s Kristie Alley size for a few days. (I can say that about Kristie since she made a show about her weight, okay?)
Maybe the truth is about all this compressing is it’s really an exercise in just how small things can really get. I’m sure if we had the computing power of Deep Blue, then this would be a sweet thing to have but we don’t so, again, just something cool to know that exists.
