SonLight Software has done it again with its latest version of without a doubt the best Usenet (newsgroup) reader for the Palm OS. Yanoff version 3.2 is packed with features and if you’re an old school netizen, then this should be on your Palm. I used Yanoff way back on my Palm V and was just blown away with it back then. Now, well it’s like a nuclear bomb hit.
Instead of one program, you now get two ! Bringing Yanoff- and Yanoff+ together in one package (opposites attract?), you now get these great features:
From Yanoff- (freeware by itself):
- Full compatibility with OS4 and OS5 (Garnet) & all new HW models
- Event (e.g. error) and port logging (i.e. uninterrupted polling)
- Multiple download methods (e.g. Batch-Header-now with Body-later)
- Outgoing support for news (NNTP) and simple email (SMTP)
- Context-sensitive, user-definable buttons
- Audible feedback/alerts
- Multiple-server support
- Essential MIME support
Yanoff+ (the commercial version) adds the following:
- Hi-Res, non-square, full/wide, and landscape/rotated screen support
- Selectable fonts (full Fonts4OS5 and FontSubst compatibility)
- Context-sensitive, user-definable actions for FiveWay & JogDial controls
- Progress dialogs and cancel/defer/resume ability for long operations
- Thread caching for radical speed increases in article threading
- Killfile and other Anti-SPAM features
- Authenticated login support for SMTP
- Global Find support
- SentBox option
If this sounds like it’s something you want to Hotsync into your Palm, then take a look at Yanoff’s web page for more information as well as for the link to download this stellar software.
Update: We originally reported that Yanoff+ and Yanoff- are combined and working together in this release when really Yanoff+ is the full licensed version and does all that Yanoff- does plus more. Our mistake and we thank SonLight Software for pointing this out to us.
