Is Micheal Dell ready to add OS X to his arsenal? Is John Dvorak wrong about Apple going Windows if Dell’s going Tiger? Well what ever the details may be, all one has to do is go to Dell’s support page and do a little downloading selection and low and behold, Apple Mac OS is one of the choices. Now the downloads aren’t even the correct format, but still, when one is ramping things up, there are bumps in the road, right? I mean the tech guys in India have been doing EXE and ZIP for years, so that DMG thing is going to take some time to get use to.
So what will life be like with OS X on a Dell and Apple hardware? Could Alienware (Dell-owned) be next?

It’s probably in case some Mac user finds himself hooking up to a Dell monitor or a Dell printer … nothing mysterious here.

It doesn’t seem to make much sense. Apple, as we all know, is a hardware company, which means it makes most of its profit from selling hardware, not software like Microsoft. Dell is an even more of a hardware company than Apple is, as far as I know, Dell doesn’t sell any major commercial software.
If Dell started selling dirt-cheap PCs (in both price and quality) that run Mac OS X, it would definitely eat up a good chunk of Apple’s income. Yes Apple could make a few measely dollars from licensing OS X but for every dollar Apple makes from licensing OS X, Apple could potentially make hundreds more by selling hardware. Not only that, Apple would have to hire more software engineers to make sure Mac OS X runs smoothly on all the various configurations and models of Dell PCs. In the end, Apple loses.

Nice try.
Dell’s system always shows all operating systems. Dell has a printer division and they have printer drivers for Mac OS X. Because of this, it shows up on the computers as well.

Peter, unless I’ve missed something on my MacBook Pro, I don’t think EXEs work well in OSX. When you make a choice to get your drivers, they are EXEs, not DMGs which is what you would use to install drivers on a Mac.
