Looks like Google likes that PayPal online payment thang as it announced today Google Checkout. Much like PayPal, users will be able to use their “Google Wallet” at the time of check out allowing them not to have to re-enter or re-submit financial and shipping information.
“We think we’re making e-commerce a lot more efficient and easier to use,” Salar Kamangar, Google’s vice president of product management, told Reuters.
Having bought out PayPal sometime ago after eBay couldn’t make its own BillPay float to customers, eBay’s claim-to-fame shopping transaction house may now have stiff competition. However, since PayPal is well branded and used by just about everyone, Google may find its new feature as stale as Microsoft’s Passport which has never really has taken off in the five years that the Redmond-based software giant as had it around. Guess we’ll all see who wins at the end of the grocery line.
