Friday as I was driving up California State Highway 99 to Sacramento, I saw a group of motorcycle riders. Actually, I heard them before I saw them. You know how it is with those loud pipes. As I got closer to the pack and its rough riders wearing brain buckets to protect the precious cargo for much needed brain tissue research, I noticed bright orange pieces of foam in the ears of many of the riders. Yes folks, those would be the very manly ear plugs that were fitted tightly into the riders of the very noisy pig, er, hog patrons.

I found this very amusing since many Harley owners I’ve spoken to all try to tell me their bikes loud sound can’t be heard when you’re on it. Or how it’s the cool factor of the cycle in which has become an icon of American motorcycles. While I have always found the bikes loud and obnoxious, it was comforting to see that even those love this bike admit by their action that this bike truly is loud.
