Oh I don’t believe what I just watched. This needs to be reported to the FTC because this is just straight up a lie!

The telecommunications industry has spent over $6 million in the last six months to stop Net Neutrality, a law that would disallow telecoms to set up a tier charging scheme giving it billions more from likes such as Google and YouTube. How? The telecoms, or ISPs, would charge Google, say, $1
,000 more a day because it “uses more bandwidth” than home users. The latter part of the statement is true; however, Google already pays more for that bandwidth in its contract to begin with! I know, I was in this industry from the day it started and I remember our bandwidth charges “at the cage” and it wasn’t a pretty penny. You think gas is expensive? Shesh. With this tier scheme, the telecoms will get even more and then guess what? We WILL have to pay for it because Google just won’t be able to furnish free search results due to a lack of funding from its ad revenue stream. The telecoms totally know this but won’t admit it because it wants a free ride for future infrastructure improvements.

I am absolutely horrified by this ad and can’t believe how boldly it lies. Since the average person knows nothing about technology, we’re going to end up with more Senator Stevens (sans the healthy bank account deposits) than educated Net surfers. Don’t be fooled by this, call your Senator and DEMAND Net Neutrality!

  1. PBCliberal Says:

The FTC isn’t going to act here, not only because this is issue-based advertising and reflects opinion but because the FTC is now asserting dominion over the very problem Net Neutrality hopes to solve claiming that they’re protecting us.

Complaining to the FTC about telco/cable lies is like complaining to the fox that the henhouse isn’t being protected.

Counter the ads with Senator Stevens recent performance in the house where he explained how the internet works. His description of the internet as a series of “tooobs” his hilarious and frigtening at the same time !!!
