Echoworx Corporation, a leading provider of security software products for digital communications, announced that its fully managed PKI-based Secure Mail is now available through several leading service providers. This simple, cost-effective desktop-to-desktop email encryption solution is a value-added service offered right now by trusted service providers in North America like Verizon, AT&T, BellSouth, and USA.NET.

Chris Erickson, Executive Vice President of Echoworx, said, “We offer a solution that will allow every consumer and enterprise, no matter how big or small, to put email into the equivalent of a digital tamper-proof envelope. More and more, consumers and businesses want to ensure the confidentiality of their email correspondence.”

“Our business customers are looking for an Enterprise-grade solution that does not require additional investment or the complexity of additional hardware or software,” said David Ramon, President and CEO at USA.NET. “USA.NET encrypted email delivers a fully managed and branded PKI-based encrypted email solution that is cost-effective, easy to use, and easy to administer. This branded solution enables the enterprise to associate their brand with trusted communications across every email touch point, even if the message is sent to non-subscribers, building brand equity each time an encrypted email message is sent and unlocked.”

Each user simply downloads a plug-in that provides the encryption function right on the desktop. A new “Secure” button will appear in the compose screen and the subscriber can begin to send encrypted email messages to anyone, including non-subscribers of the service. In addition, Secure Mail for Enterprises delivers an intuitive Administration Console, which gives organizations the ability to easily add and administer their own Secure Mail users.

Businesses have obligations to keep information private. They also face compliance with laws that protect the confidentiality of private information and data integrity such as, SOX, HIPAA, GLBA, CB1384. Secure Mail is required by legal, financial and accounting firms, as well as educational institutions, and healthcare organizations that have ethical and fiduciary duties to keep personal information about their clients confidential.

“Lawyers should not be expected to build and maintain platforms for managing digital identities, nor should they be expected to establish customized secure email links with all of their clients,” explains Theo Ling, Partner and Member of Information Technology/Communications group at Baker & McKenzie. “The cost is just too high, and the complexity of the task is just too great. Products like Secure Mail that require no upfront investment or ongoing management have got to be the solution. Clients and lawyers alike will benefit by this mass market approach to encrypting email.”
