Viacom in Gross Abuse of DMCA

I posted last summer a video from YouTube of my then Grand Prix GTP displaying the supercharger in boost mode. Thing was, I was stopped and pumping gas. Too funny to pass up not filming and sharing with the world. In the background you could hear Leo from This Week in Tech wrapping up the show. Nothing else really going on.

Today I receive an e-mail from YouTube stating:

Dear Member:
This is to notify you that we have removed or disabled access to the following material as a result of a third-party notification by Viacom International Inc. claiming that this material is infringing:

GTP Supercharging in Park!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDFZsU2oj-A

What the heck does Viacom think it has claim to? Did it make the supercharger gauge? The display for my Podcast from the 7 inch screen is from Pioneer, not Viacom. Oh wait, maybe it’s the flash of paper on the ground the camera saw for a split second and that paper had an ad on it. Who knows, but it looks like Viacom is going around and randomly making claim to anything in the name of the DMCA. This law is twisted in use, it’s driving me nuts!

UPDATE: Looks like Viacom unleashed the DMCA forces on YouTube as it requested 100,000 videos be pulled. Mine gets pulled which lacks any Viacom content yet search MTV on YouTube and you still get 40,000 valid hits. Joy.
