If you are a fan of PC’s and plan on making a purchase of the all new Windows Vista, then you are probably wondering what the easiest way to move all of your files, programs, and everything from your old OS to your new one. Or maybe you are purchasing a new computer altogether and you need to move everything from the old unit to the new unit. The new PC Mover program makes these seemingly daunting tasks simple.
PCmover is the only migration system that moves programs and files from your old to your new PC using either a Laplink USB cable, Laplink parallel cable, or Windows Easy Transfer Cable. If you have multiple users on the same PC, you can migrate either all the users or a select few, the choice is up to you. All the security and ownership settings along with the access control settings and preferences will remain the same for each user you transfer. You don’t need any of your old CDs or anything. Just transfer the programs over and they will be fully installed and function the same as they did on the old PC, no need to enter serial numbers or anything.
PCmover is compatible with Windows 95 and later. So if you are going to purchase a new PC computer or switch to Vista, PCmover will make it simple. Or you could just buy a Mac and not worry about anything.

Hi Sven! Thanks for writing about PCmover - I’d just add one thing to your article: the software can also perform the move over a network (wireless included), not just with cables.

I performed a migration that took 36 hours. Thinking that all was well when it was done, I rebooted my PC. Unfortunately, the system wouldn’t proceed past the Vista start-up screen. At this stage, I question the reliability of PCmover.

I purchased PCmover through DELL when I bought a DELL laptop. After a month of trials, I just found out PCmover is just a trap to suck your money—helped by DELL brand. Here is why:
First, rebate won’t work unless you purchase another Laplink product (you’ll learn this after you purchased the PCmover, down-loaded rebate form from DELL website). When you found all this, your time is up to return the product (three weeks).
Second, I spend a quite time to set up the transfer between two computers, just found out after 24 hours that the transfer was still not completed. Then I checked every thing, found the transfer Laplink hardware is USB 1.1 version, which is snail version or stone age of USB link.
Finally, PCmover is not compatible to Window Vista. It may punch a hole in your new computer security system (Firewall).
My opinion is: PCmover is an overstock product in Laplink warehouse probably five years ago.
My suggestion: never buy anything from Laplink.com. Be very careful if you buy peripherals from DELL.
