Chesapeake Technology makes a software package called RetrieverWD for Treo 700w and Treo 700wx. This is a data package used to connect your Treo with external data loggers, such as the very capable WatchDog data loggers from Spectrum. There are many interesting applications for this type of system. Some farmers are using these data loggers in their coolers to demonstrate compliance with the USDA requirements for temperature control.
Here’s how to get it to work with the 700w/700wx software RetrieverWD. The Treo’s built-in Bluetooth configuration in the Connection Settings is used to discover the ECYPH adapter, and the Bluetooth connection is mapped to COM4. The Com port in RetrieverWD is set to COM4 as well.
ECYPH LLC is the company with the Serial Bluetooth Adapter technology. If you want to use the Spectrum Data Logger along with a Treo 700w, then you’ll want to get on the following ECYPH web page: http://www.pcables.com/cat2.html. You can order a ERC1-M9-6. IMPORTANT: In the Special Instructions, you need to state that you want the Bluetooth preconfigured for 1200bps 8-N-1. This makes it out-of-the box compatible with the Spectrum dataloggers.
This is great news for Treo 700w and Treo 700wx users. ECYPH is designed for easy serial connection to other computing products. The ERC1-M9-6 utilizes the same RS232 interface technology as our world-famous "M9-6" line of serial cables for Palm Pilots, such as the PDCT5-M9-6. This means that if you have purchased a PDCT5-M9-6 (or in fact any -M9-6) cable from www.pcables.com and it is working in your application, you can be guaranteed that the ERC1-M9-6 will make the serial connection just as well. For customers who are ready to make the move into Bluetooth Serial on their Palm Pilot, here is the most rugged and reliable solution available.
