The good folks at Snap have informed SvenOnTech of a wonderful new link preview technology called Snap Shots. Snap Shots, is a free website add-on that allows users to hover over a link and receive an instant preview of that link. The preview is generated on the fly and thus what you see in the pop-up balloon is a live snap shot of the link itself. So instead of wasting time on a link that may not contain useful information, or it may peak your interest and curiosity arises, you can now simply put your mouse over the link and wait a few seconds and then presto, there is your answer before you. Now of course, you can read the text and all, but the Snap Shot does give you a very good indication as to if the link is worthy of a click.

Snap Shots gives you a variety of “shots” to choose from such as WikiShot (Wikipedia like balloon), VideoShot (YouTube preview), and PhotoShot (flikr shots) to name a few.

Web site operators and bloggers alike can add this very simple to use add-on to their site with a few clicks for free. In fact, if you’re a blogger, there are many third-party scripts available that will add the proper code to your site for you. We use WordPress and the Snap Shots Plug-in made it a piece of cake to add this great feature our site. It also gives you an administrators interface to customize your Snap Shots.

Nice stuff, we think. :)

My opinion: nice bling, too small to be of use.

If you click on the Options link in the top right corner, you can then select the large bubble which makes it more readable. I defaulted it to small in the interest of aesthetics.

Also note that when you hover over links for Amazon, Wikipedia, and such, the information lists in the balloon instead of a snap shot of the site. So it’s very readable and very useful. Search SvenOnTech for “amazon.com” and “en.wikipedia.com” and then hover the links for an example. Very cool stuff.
