GMail is all the craze with its speedy loading, Google-backed searching, and free gobs of storage space for your e-mail. While using Safari or Firefox is fine for GMail, sometimes performing common tasks like adding attachments is a little clunky via the browser interface. Wouldn’t it just be nice to have a Mail.app like program on your Mac that would do GMail? Mmm, looks like your flight just flew in and the airline you’ll be boarding is Mailplane.
Mailplane is basically a wrapper for GMail but it takes those common tasks and makes them easier and more fluid to perform.
For example, you can now simply drag-n-drop files from a folder in Finder and drop it onto Mailplane. Done! Attached. If you dragged a picture, no worries mate, it’ll automatically be resized for the optimal sending size. Instant screen shots are supported and easily added to your message automatically. Oh ya, you’ll now be able to send photos right from iPhoto to Mailplane. Nice. One disadvantage to Mailplane, however, is that it may cause you to forget your password as it’ll add your GMail password to your Keychain and take care of authentication for you. No more required “login” every two weeks ever again. Well, unless you access GMail from the web again.
With other great features like Growl support, easy attachment download with easy import of pictures into iPhoto, and full Apple keyboard shortcut support, why wouldn’t you check out Mailplane? Well then go on over to the web site and sign up for the limited beta. 100 lucky people well get a link to download the app with each beta phase daily. We’re sure if your a die-hard GMail user, this will be your front-end here on out. Enjoy.
UPDATED: Thanks for pointing out you issue send out 100 new beta tester invites a day, Ruben. And…we just got ours! ![]()
