Okay, now Altec Lansing has just released the inMotion iMV712, I’ve got to ask, “Where’s the car video version?” Alpine, Pioneer, Sony, they all have iPod connectors now. Most after-market radios do, period. Now with album art as the new big thing to show on the display, why can’t we just get the whole video on these screens? Altec Lansing has proven that it can be done no problem as have other brands with home docks that also produce video on TV screens from a cradled iPod. So what gives?
For the last few months, I’ve been wondering why this hasn’t happened. I know there isn’t any technical difficulties to work around especially since now Altec has shown us that it can be done. With the prevalence of LCD screens in cars and SUVs everywhere today, this just makes SO much sense to do. In fact, the first company to do it will probably sell tons of units. So where are they Alpine? Sony? Pioneer? Clarion? Eclipse? You all pioneered the LCD screen in cars so won’t one of you pioneer iPod video in the vehicle?

You must have missed the Clarion MAX675VD.

I knew Clarion would be the first to do something like this! Thanks droughtquake. Now time for an update to the iPod interface and get some album art on there and video navigation from the head unit and not the iPod. But hey, at least Clarion has got that much.

The current Crutchfield catalog lists a new Clarion VRX575USB, a Dual XDVD8182, and a new Kenwood DNX7100 which all feature the ability to show iPod videos on their displays.
On the other hand, Alpine designed the display and menu system of the IDA-X001 ‘in collaboration with Apple’. Crutchfield doesn’t mention whether the unit has the ability to play iPod videos on the display, but the display look very much like an iPod display with three lines of info plus the Album Cover Art! (This AM/FM receiver does not play CDs. The iPod connects via USB or through a dock adapter.)

Thanks, droughtquake. I noticed this in the same issue last week when it came in the mail.
The Alpine does not support video. We mentioned this unit during our Macworld Expo coverage. It looks great overall and we do hope to get a unit for review soon.

I have the wires to go from my ipod to show pics and videos on the TV and IT works. There is an Alpine Video in my car along with a Premier in dash AM/FM player which puts great sound from the in-car Ipod docking station. There must be a white-red-yellow connector that links up the video to the Alpine SOMEWHERE?
