Thing I hate most about my iPhone? The headphones. Ugh, what crap! I understand cost cutting techniques, but man, Apple, you sure know how to bring a halt to a party faster than you can say, “My ears hurt”. Apple’s iPhone headset and it’s built-in mic and switch are itself a master piece creation and yet once those buds get in your ear cannel, forget it. They just suck.

Many have discovered Shure’s MPA-3c. The iPhone adapter that allows you to retain the great mic and button control of your iPhone and yet use REAL headphones. Any ones of your choice. Thing is, it’s by Sure and, ya, they’re expensive. $40. And that’s if you can even find them.

Well thankfully iPod accessory maker (and high quality cable producer) Monster has come to the rescue with a similar product at half the price. The iSoniTalk allows you plug in any headphone of your liking and still have the ability to take a phone call without the use of the stock headset. You can also pause and advance forward a song with the built-in button on the mic just like Apple’s ear buds. Unlike Sure’s offering, Monster doesn’t ADD another five hundred feet of cable for you to get tangled in. Instead, Monster gives you another cable run for the mic and button and has your current headphones plug in near the base of the phone. So, you keep your headphone length at bay and simply route the mic to your shirt near your mouth either at the collar or near your chest. It’s that simple and yes, don’t forget, that cheap.

I’ve ordered one and will let you know how it goes when it arrives.
