New York, NY — October 4, 2011 — Today marks the official release of Ray, a community developed solar powered charger for gadgets on the go.

Never go powerless again with Quirky’s new portable charging device. Simply stick Ray’s powerful silicone suction cup in the sun’s direction or use its tilting kickstand on flat surfaces in multiple positions to capture the maximum amount of sunlight. Electronic devices can be plugged into the easily accessible USB port. Ray’s compact battery stores enough energy for a full phone charge, and the LED indicator light keeps you appraised of its status. When you are through getting juiced, simply tuck your USB cords into the kickstand when closed.

Ray is the 137th product designed and developed by the Quirky community since Quirky’s launch on June 2, 2009. Ray is the dream of Quirky community member of Brandon Craven, from Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania and was brought to life on quirky.com with the help of 988 influencers.

Quirky makes invention accessible by partnering with creative people around the world to bring new products to life. This week ends the development phase of Ray, and it is now available for presale in Quirky’s online store for $39.99 (MSRP: $49.99).

You might remember other successful Quirky products including Space Bar, a USB shelf for your computer screen; Pivot Power, a flexible power strip; and the PowerCurl, a cord wrap for Apple’s MagSafe power adapter.

Quirky engages participants to collaborate in every aspect of product creation — from ideation, design, naming, manufacturing, marketing, right on through to sales. Anyone can participate on Quirky.com either by submitting their own product idea for $10, or by voting, rating, and influencing other people’s product ideas. Cooler still, 30¢ of every dollar generated from the direct sale of a Quirky product goes back to these influencers.

Every week, users post ideas on Quirky to be rated by the Quirky community. The community surveys the submissions during a seven-day evaluation period and selects one product to move forward into product development. Quirky’s community then begins weighing in on everything from naming to logo selection to packaging through to prototype.

The final product becomes available for presale in the Quirky online store (quirky.com/products). Once the product hits its presale threshold, credit cards are charged, and the product goes into production and delivery. At this point, 30¢ of every dollar made from the sale of these products goes back to the community. “Community” in this case covers both the ideator as well as all people who voted, commented, and rated the project idea along the way.

iRoom_iDock.jpeg

Since the arrival of the iPod a decade ago, dock accessories have become very popular and creative. That cleverness has made it to the iPad with the new iRoom iDock. Unlike any other dock, Bracketron has gone into the sheet rock and put in a “fully powered, motorized in-wall iPad mounting solution” as it refers to it. The dock comes in three colors including brushed aluminum, piano black and opal white or can be customized to match your wall. Both the iPad and iPad 2 can take advantage of the iRoom iDock in either portrait or landscape docking.

Perfect for hotels, hospitals, restaurants, boardrooms, doctor offices, corporate entrances, and retails settings, the iRoom iDock can definitely remove clutter from a desk and add a touch of elegance to any wall. While I’m not sure how this would fit into walls of private homes, it would be cool to dock your iPad next to your bed in the wall.

No pricing information is given in the below press release but you can count on it being close in cost of the bottom of the line iPad.

Minneapolis, MN – September 21, 2011– Bracketron, the leader in mounting solutions and accessories for mobile consumer electronics, announces the North American availability of the iRoom iDock, the first powered and motorized in-wall mounting solution for iPad on the market today. Available in portrait and landscape models, the iDock can be flush-mounted to seamlessly and stylishly integrate the iPad into any room. A patented motorized docking system opens and closes the iDock to securely store the iPad, and the dock also includes both power and composite audio internal connections. The mount’s faceplate (bezel) comes in three sleek colors including brushed aluminum, piano black and opal white, or can be color customized so that the bezel perfectly matches your unique interior design. Compatible with both iPad and iPad 2, iDock Landscape and iDock Portrait are available now through Bracketron, the official and exclusive distributor for iRoom iDock in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

“The iRoom iDock is an elegant, powered solution that fully integrates the iPad into a room’s design concept and overall function,” said Christian Johnson, Vice President of Marketing at Bracketron. “The iDock is ideal for both residential and commercial applications, and will turn any room into a truly sophisticated and connected living or work space.”

The iDock features a unique powered opening mechanism with a one-touch proximity sensor. When activated, the sensor recognizes when you are nearby and switches the iDock to the open position allowing you to insert your iPad. After ten seconds the iPad door closes again automatically. The proximity sensor can also be disabled to lock the iPad permanently in place. When the iPad is inserted into the dock, you have total control of smart home applications on the device while it is also being charged. The iDock also automatically charges the iPad battery when mounted. If you experience a power outage, the iDock simply opens automatically and releases the iPad for removal.

The iRoom iDock is integrated flush with the wall using a special flush-mounted socket. The iDock is then connected to the power supply and inserted into the flush-mounted socket. For added security, the iDock’s proximity sensor and automatic opening and closing functions can be disabled if desired. The iDock landscape model is particularly suited for viewing movies, presentations and photos on the iPad. A 30-pin connector powers the landscape version. The iDock is also external contact-friendly, which makes interesting new functions possible such as connecting the dock to a keypad or fingerprint entry system.

The continuous development of iPad applications creates new ways and opportunities to integrate iPad products every day. The iRoom iDock is an elegant solution for in-wall docking and control in:

• Private homes
• Hotels
• Hospitals
• Yachts
• Restaurants
• Boardrooms
• Retail
• Medical practices
• Corporate entrances

The iDock features brilliant design, engineering and high quality materials, and is manufactured to the most stringent European standards. All iRoom products come with a two-year warranty. Noise cancelling headphones are probably the best sort of headphones on the market today to help get rid of unwanted sounds. When choosing noise cancelling headphones there are actually two different types; you can choose from active noise cancelling headphones or passive noise cancelling headphones. Each pair works a little bit differently, however each pair has the same end result in mind, and that is successfully reducing unwanted noises.

Passive noise cancelling headphones work to muffle offending sounds. They have a special design known as circum-aural sound dampening. Basically this means the headphones are built into the shape of cups. These cups are then made to fit the entire perimeter of the ear. These cups are constructed of high density foam. This foam is specially made to muffle or reduce the decibels of certain sound waves. As a result, passive noise cancelling headphones can keep out noises as high as 20 decibels.

The second class of noise cancelling headphones is active ones. Active noise cancelling headphones are made of a design similar to that of the passive models. Again the circum-aural dampening design is used but another feature is added on to the active noise cancelling headphones. Technology has been created to be part of these headphones and they are designed to eliminate unwanted sounds.

A microphone is included in the active noise cancelling headphones to pick up sounds from the surrounding environment. These would be any sound that cannot be muffled out by the foam in the headphones. The sound is analyzed so the active noise cancelling headphones can then create the exact opposite sound. This sound is then made by the headphones and neither this sound, or the annoying sound, are ever heard by the ear.

There are significant implications when choosing active noise cancelling headphones. For instance, there is no longer a need to hike up the volume of a device in order to try to block out the background sounds. The active noise cancelling headphones do this job for you. This helps save your eardrums from music that is way too loud.

Between the two methods, active noise cancelling headphones are the better option to preserve your hearing. If you want anymore information visit lindy.co.uk.

iTwin.jpeg

Do you find yourself at work wishing you could listen to that album on your home computer but you can’t bring it in and put it on your word PC due to policy? Of course, your library is so large, the cloud is an expensive option. Or what about sharing a file to your laptop while out of the office but it needs to be secure? What to do? Get a twin. An iTwin.

iTwin is an interesting new way to share files with two USB “keys” that are placed in on the host and the other on the client. In other words, plug in one side of the iTwin on your home Mac and then the other one on your work’s PC and you’ve got access to your music. (You caught the Mac/PC combo, right? :) ) Of course, an Internet connection is required. Since this is between two devices, it will be a sunny day without any clouds. :)

Very interesting concept that has definite promise for those that need a secure and unlimited amount of transfer. Take a look at the video below.
