Obituaries | Death Notices | Newspaper Obituaries | Online Obituaries | Newspaper Death Notices | Online Death Notices

Earlier this week SvenOnTech told you about Tributes.com, the place for obits online. We quoted founder Jeff Taylor to the claim as being the first online obits site. Guess what? It’s not.

Legacy.com is a site that’s been bringing obituaries to the web for over a decade since 1998! The site claims 13 million unique visitors a month making it one of the most popular web sites on the Internet. Teaming up with the largest media sources in the world, ” including more than 700 newspapers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia”, a loved one, friend, or college can easily be found on Legacy.com. In fact, a recent death of a college of mine was found instantly on Legacy.com.

The site also allows users to interact with one another in remembering the lost. “Users also can create interactive Legacy Memorial Websites that allow others to post and share photos, video and other memories of their loved ones,” SvenOnTech was told by Legacy.com.

Take a look at Legacy.com and remember and share with others the life of someone today.

UPDATE: Founder of Tributes.com, Jeff Taylor, was inaccurately quoted and did not make the claim “last man standing” This claim was made by Tributes.com press release.

WikiTap Features - What can I do with WikiTap ?.

The iPhone has a few Wikipedia applications available for information hunting people on the go. Most like Wikipanion, my self included, while others like Wikiamo. Now there’s a new kid in town and he’s free with some added features. Oh ya, he also runs on Android based systems such as T-Mobile’s G1.

WikiTap brings you both Wikipedia and Wikionary right to your hand. While the formatting isn’t anything to woo most users, what one will find on the bottom row in Wikipedia results may at least raise some eye brows. With a connection to its WikiTap community adding video to WikiTap as well as links to YouTube, you’ll be able to dive in deeper in topic right there in your handset. You don’t have to upload anything to participate either. You can do the TiVo and thumb-up or down video to help better refine what shows up in the video row.

For those needing to know how to pronounce a word, look it up in Wikionary and tap the speaker and out comes the way to say it. Speaking of spelling, WikiTap will also auto-corrrects misspelt words in the look up window for you. For example, if you type “shwazzenegg”, you’ll get Arnold Schwarzenegger. Enter “sycholog” and out comes “psychology”. Great for people like me that weren’t taught phonics in school. (What was I taught anyway? Such a blur.)

Veveo hopes to add travel and music to the list of features in the future. Get WikiTap from the AppStore or App Market for free today.

LivingSocial

Social networking, you know, Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace, is the new big thing. Everyone is trying to cash in on this new thing and with a ton of choices out there, how does one fine tune to the good ones? Ya, it’s tough, but for me, I just found one that socials on a wonderful drink: beer. Being a “beer snob”, I enjoy a good beer. Be it an ale, dark, pilsner, or a lager, if it’s good and tasty, I’ll happily try it. So when I saw that the community of 6 million users at LivingSocial talked beer, the new iPhone application caught my attention! Add to the finer things in fermented water like eating, music, and reading, and man, you have good possibilities with this application. And unlike many other social networks that try to compete with others, LivingSocial lets you plug into them. With linking supported for Facebook, MySpace (cough), Bebo, Orkut and hi5, you’ll be able to easily share your finds and critiques with others.

I’ve downloaded and signed up for the service and am going to give it a try. How knows, I may find a new killer beer and a nice restaurant in which to drink it at. In fact, it may be your review that guides to these jewels! :)
