The Bottom Line
If you need some NuPower to replace your tired and end-of-life MacBook Pro battery, then look no further than NewerTech’s replacement battery. Made solid and backed by NewerTech’s just as solid warranty, you will be hard pressed to find a replacement battery as good as this one for this price.

Full Review
When I first purchased my MacBook Pro, the very first model to replace the aging PowerBook line, I was excited by the longer lasting battery that came with the updated Apple notebook. The original battery lasted pretty long after heavy use; however, nothing lasts for ever. So, it was time to replace Apple’s battery but most likely not with another Apple battery due to the high price tag. So should I get one of those cheap ones on eBay or go to Best Buy and try my luck there? Or, should I try one from one of the longest running Mac accessory company, NewerTech?
I opted for the NewerTech NuPower High Capacity battery for my 15-inch MacBook Pro. OWC shipped the battery fully charged. This is great since so many batteries are shipped with essentially enough to turn on the device and that’s it. With NuPower, you have power from delivery.
I tested the battery with the LCD at full, no hard drive sleep, and at idle. Basically, the MacBook was a large night light. This test, ran more than once, gave me a little over three hours of battery life. When I stuck in a DVD and played a movie, with no other applications running in the background, I only shaved off about 20 to 25 minutes getting over two-and-half hours out of it. This is what about my original Apple battery gave me. No loss or gain of life. No complaints.
Like Apple, NewerTech has a battery charge gauge on the unit. Press the button and up lights five green LEDs if fully charged. Each unlit light will give you about 20% less battery life left. The button press lights up each light sequentially in a cool animation absent on Apple’s original battery.
NewerTech believes in a green planet and to back that belief it makes its NuPower replacement batteries free of lead, mercury, cadmium, PBBs, and PBDE. It also recycles old batteries, helping you locate a local facility in your area for proper disposal. If you cannot find one, then simply ship your battery, NewerTech or not, and it will take care of the disposal free of charge. NewerTech’s recycle program is a generous and responsible one.
After using the battery for a few months, I have seen no loss of capacity or any wear on the battery itself. NewerTech has made a solid battery and at a good price. I know if I ever have an issue with it, I can easily pick-up the phone and my problem will be quickly resolved. Just what I expect from a quality company like NewerTech.
