  • Installs in minutes
  • Many formats to choose from
  • Large, easy to read display
  • Competitively priced

  • No export options for DVD or web formats (i.e H.264, flv)

The Bottom Line

A great program if you are trying to compress files for portable video players. (i.e iPad, Wii, Nintendo D.S, etc.) Not so great if you are trying to compress formats for web, including H.264, Flv, etc. So, if you want a program that also includes web formats, I would look elsewhere.

Yet another video product from TMPGEnc that can come in extremely handy. If you have always wanted to be able to compress video for your iPhone, iPad, Wii, Xbox, or 3gp phone, then this is the program for you. MovieStyle offers a wide variety of formats including (but not limited to) avi, all mpeg formats, 3g2, 3gp, AVCHD formats, and many others.

I found this program extremely easy to use, and it installed within minutes. The navigation buttons are large and easy to read, so I had no trouble finding my way around the program.

To encode a video, all I simply had to do was click the “Add” button, choose which format I wanted (i.e a file or a DVD), add the file, then choose the output format. In this case I chose the Apple TV option. The file encoded within minutes and was ready to play.

A problem I had with this program was that it does not offer formats for web or DVD, including H.264 or FLV, which I use constantly when exporting videos. H.264 is a great format to have because it crushes the size of the file without compromising the quality.

Another downside, (and a kind of funny one) is that this program is only compatible with Windows. It has many export options for Apple devices, but doesn’t actually run on a Mac O.S.

I would strongly encourage TMPGEnc to make a MAC compatible version in the near future.
