Beverly Hills Manners for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad on the iTunes App Store

I often marvel at people today. What happened to my generation? I won’t even ask about the younger ones from Gen X and down. Where did manners go to? I can’t believe how many people yawn without covering their mouth. Dude, major rude! Forget elbows on the table, we have people talking with food in their mouth! How about opening a door for a lady? I know I live in California where the liberals live heavy and some women can be confused for men by their look, but still, manners people.

Well, if you’re curious or just needing help yourself, then I would suggest you head over to the App Store now for your free download. Yes, there’s an app for that. Thankfully Lisa Gaché, CEO of Beverly Hills Manners (BHM), has released a free application that will help you with social graces, dining (forks AND knives please!), business, and even childrens etiquette. There’s even a spot for first impressions. Etiquette Tips fills brings news bits to the app keeping it fresh and fun to use.

MyFord Mobile App

Ford has finally responded to GMs mobile application suite due to be available for every 2011 GM vehicle with MyFord Mobile. Like GMs offering, Ford owners will have access to unlock or lock their doors, checking the charging status of the batteries (if you have such items in your Ford,) and unlike GM, the addition of MapQuest giving you access to the nearest gas station. Unlike GM, Ford has decided to go the universal way and make the app a Web App to allow greater access among all devices. While I give Ford kudos for implementing HTML5 for its Web App (WAP 2.0 will also be available for dumb phones,) one only has to look at the iPhone as an example of how well that works. During its first year run, the iPhone with Web Apps barely made a blip on the handheld as many were frustrated with the slow displaying graphics and constant wait with each link tapped. Once Steve Jobs announced native applications for the iPhone, the developer community rejoiced and today we have the most successful app store and a new revolution in smartphones. GM went with the revolution and Ford went with frustration. That’s disappointing. Maybe it will make a change when countless calls of disgruntled users voice their mayhem or when it reads the marketing reports showing more consumers purchasing GMs because it had an iPhone app.

That said, enjoy the press release! :)

Nag Mac App Store

Electric Pocket’s popular Nag app, which you’ll recall bugs iPhone users in 5, 10, 15, 30 minutes, in an hour or at the top of the hour with the touch of a button, has been released today for Mac. We like to think this super-simple timer can put an end to late meetings, burned dinners and forgotten phone calls. From what we’ve heard, all those who have used it on their iPhone love how simple and useful Nag is.

A single button press sets a nagging alarm that will jog your memory over and over – you can use Nag for TV shows reminders, cooking, phone calls, collecting the kids – whatever you need to make sure you remember.

Nag’s controls let you press a single button to set an alarm at the top of the hour, or at a set time away, such as in 5 minutes, or an hour from now. If you want to fine-tune the alarm time, then simply press the buttons again to add more minutes to the time.

Here’s the link for more info: The app is selling for $.99.

Garmin StreetPilot App

Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced its first turn-by-turn navigation app for iPhone, StreetPilot, as well as its full lineup of new smartphone applications for both iPhone and Android. Garmin’s new mobile applications — including StreetPilot for iPhone, Garmin Tracker, myMechanic, and My-Cast Lite — will be on display in the Garmin booth (South Hall #35831) at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

“Providing consumers with mobile applications is yet another way they can experience the benefits of Garmin – be it our navigation expertise or bringing the capabilities of our niche market products to a smartphone. GPS is an extremely helpful tool, but we recognize it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. We decided to introduce a new line of smartphone applications so that we can give customers a quality Garmin experience in the format of their choosing,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales.
The StreetPilot® App: Designed specifically for iPhone, the StreetPilot App gives iPhone owners unlimited use of Garmin’s industry-leading navigation with traffic alerts. The intuitive interface greets users with two simple options: “Where to?” and “View Map.” Customers can easily look up addresses and services and get voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions that speak street names to their destination.

The StreetPilot App includes many of the same high-end features available on Garmin’s standalone automotive GPS devices like free traffic alerts that enable drivers to steer clear of traffic accidents, road closures and construction; lane assist with junction view that directs drivers to the preferred lane and displays realistic images of upcoming complex junctions; and speed limit indicators that display speed limits for most major roads. It is an off-board navigation system so that customers always have the advantage of the most up-to-date mapping information available.

The StreetPilot App also integrates with a driver’s iTunes music library so they can access and control their music while on the move; integrates with their address book so they can navigate directly from their contact list; and uses the multitasking ability of iOS 4 to allow them to take a phone call while the navigation continues to work in the background.

The StreetPilot App is available now for $39.99 from the App Store on iPhone or at

New Year\'s Resolution Comes to the Android

As 2011 approaches, Iconosys, one of 2010’s most publicized Smartphone app technology companies releases their final app of 2010; a fun, social network integrated, New Year’s Eve countdown and tracking system for New Year’s resolutions in order to promote positive health. This new app “New Years Buzzer™”(NYB) delivers regular self-tracked affirmations encouraging users to continue adherence to their year end commitments and growth.

New Year’s resolutions ultimately are made for improvement and self-help purposes. Whether it is quitting smoking, abandoning a habit, losing weight, getting in shape, the idea of a New Year’s resolution ultimately is focused on making a better person out of oneself. New Year’s Buzzer™ is built to encourage this concept, provide a means to track it, and provide the user a personal incentive to “stay on the improvement program.” And in helping to combat such problems as obesity and smoking, the new Iconosys app carries a wider societal benefit.

For 2011, Iconosys makes a resolution to continue to develop first of kind technologies into the year. Iconosys management and technology teams further resolve to expand Iconosys’ reach into convergence technologies and device computing by building apps for devices that make the most of Iconosys’ technologies. Examples of these technologies include Smart-Apps that run on Flat Panel HDTV’s and Internet-enabled App running devices like the Chumby and Sony Dash among others.

• New Year’s Buzzer™ uses proprietary technology to integrate and maximize the app’s social reach by giving the user the ability to send simultaneous Happy New Year’s wishes to anyone and everyone in their contacts list. Everyone gets to feel that they were the most important person to that New Year’s Buzzer user.

• The app user can place and track their 2011 New Year’s resolutions. A daily tracking prompt is presented where the user can confirm that they kept their personal commitment to bettering themselves. Celebratory congratulations are given each day where the resolution is kept. We at Iconosys feel that “Every day is New Year’s Day when you keep your resolutions.”

• New Year’s Buzzer™ keeps an attractive New Year’s countdown running as a service in the background and resets for 2012 after the new year.

• At 10 seconds to New Year’s, the phone wakes, strobes, and a huge crowd counts down with you and your party until the stroke of midnight.

• New Year’s Buzzer™ is available in English as well as Spanish.

New Year’s Buzzer™ is available now at no charge on the Android OS Smart phones from the Android Market and from Android sold 9.1 Million Smart phones in the last financial quarter alone.

TC Electronic announces the launch of the first polyphonic guitar tuner app for iPhone, iPod and iPad

TC Electronic, developer of high quality audio equipment, today announces the PolyTune™ app – an iPhone, iPod and iPad app for tuning guitars and bass guitars accurately and efficiently. Based on the award-winning PolyTune™ pedal tuner, the application instantly shows guitarists which strings need tuning after one strum. Speeding up the tuning process, the PolyTune™ app enables musicians to concentrate on playing music and eliminate tuning time.
Download the PolyTune™ application from iTunes

The PolyTune™ app uses polyphonic technology, which picks up all the notes on an iPhone or iPad using the in-built microphone or via an external mic on an iPod. The app instantly displays all the notes simultaneously on the screen of the device, showing users which open string needs to be tuned.

Guitar product manager, Tore Lynggaard Mogensen, comments: “We can’t make tuning fun, but we can sure make it a whole lot quicker and easier. The original PolyTune™ pedal won much acclaim from professionals, but we have now transferred this to the new PolyTune™ app, making it accessible for all guitarists. Where the pedal allows musicians to tune up quickly on-stage this app takes it a step further by allowing tuning to take place anywhere, anytime and quickly. We have accomplished what was deemed impossible until now: tuning all strings simultaneously. It’s simple, strum, tune and rock!”

The application can tune guitars and bass guitars and contains all the smart features that made the original PolyTune™ pedal so successful. Included in the PolyTune™ app is a MoloPoly feature which recognizes whether one or more strings are being played, then seamlessly switches between the polyphonic (multiple strings) or the chromatic (single string) display mode. In chromatic mode guitarists can choose from the traditional ‘needle’ display or the ‘stream’ display providing an alternative choice of visual representations of the pitch. Both displays utilize a ‘tuning magnet’ feature, slowing the pitch indication down the nearer the string becomes tuned. This makes the app extremely precise with +/- 0.5 cent accuracy.

PolyTune™ features:
· Polyphonic tuner – Tune all strings simultaneously
· Chromatic tuner – Ultra fast and steady response, needle and stream display modes with +/- 0.5 cent accuracy
· Drop-tunings – Dropped tunings from E-flat down to B supported in polyphonic mode
· Works with both guitar and bass – Both polyphonic and chromatic mode work for both guitars and 4-, 5- and 6-string Bass.
· Updated display – Full retina display and color blind feature (blue/yellow display)
· iOS 4 compatible

Pricing and availability
The PolyTune™ app is available on the App Store for $4.99/£3.59.

As part of an introductory offer, the PolyTune app will be available at 99c/59p for three days.

Stinger Missile onto the App Store with Exclusion Zone: Anti-Air Warfare for iPhone and iPod touch

Appular announces the launch of its fourth title, Exclusion Zone: Anti-Air Warfare, for iPhone and iPod touch, offering a combative spin on strategic line-drawing games. An invasion led by fighter jets, stealth bombers, and Apache helicopters is quickly approaching the military’s land and naval bases. Players must avert the attack and prepare their silos for an all-out air-strike.

In Exclusion Zone: AAW, players act as the military’s chief defense strategist during an onslaught of air raids. Players must guard landing strips and helipads by drawing anti-aircraft missile paths that intercept and annihilate enemies before they land. Bonus weapons such as electromagnetic pulses and homing missiles enhance the combative element of Exclusion Zone by adding more firepower to a player’s death-dealing arsenal. Exclusion Zone also features OpenFeint integration with leaderboards and achievements to intensify competitive gameplay.

“In the past, we were contracted to generate war simulation exercises and we’ve definitely integrated some militaristic defense concepts into Exclusion Zone: AAW, to make it a lot more intense,” says Patrick Fitzpatrick, Director of PTK Learning. “We have a talented team of developers committed to Exclusion Zone: AAW, so fans can expect monthly updates with new maps and weapons that are guaranteed to be packed with more heat!”

In celebration of the launch of Exclusion Zone, Appular announces that they will be giving away three $50 Visa Gift Cards in a raffle to players who have totaled the destruction of at least 100 enemy crafts.
