The dearth of iPhone 5 docks is disappointing and the few – literally – that do exist are complete nonsense. Sorry Belkin, I do not wish to advertise your company when docking my phone. Fortunately, within sixty days, you can have a truly fitting dock for your iPhone 5, or older, that not only looks killer but compliments your Mac and as a magnificent bonus, keeps things tidy!

The OC Desk Display Stand ingeniously removes any hint of cables by placing a super thin cable under your Mac’s stand. Routing the cable up the rear and through the wire hole of the stand allows the cable to never be seen by the casual user. Even looking behind the Mac reveals a clean cable connection. The stand itself sticks onto the lip of the stand but is easily removable, leaving no evidence of stickiness once removed. The adhesive is strong enough to allow you to remove your iPhone single-handed without any fear of the stand coming up with your device. If you like to protect your investment with a case, no worries, as the OC Dock even allows for you to dock the phone inside the case. For those that prefer to show the beauty of your iPhone, you can purchase the more slim OC Dock for naked iPhones.

This is a Kickstarter project, so I would strongly recommend helping the boys out and donating to the cause so we can all clean up our desk and dock it right!

For your new product/tech/organization features, please consider OC Desk – revolutionizing the workspace organization industry, OC Desk iPhone docks eliminates excess wire with a wireless appearance due to its paper-thin cable connection that runs underneath the stand. Often referred to as “Obsessively Clean Desk,” OC Desk has a missive to clear wasted space – allowing for a minimal, simple workspace, which results in performance efficiency.

Today, launches the official Kickstarter campaign to raise awareness and funds before the e-commerce launch set for mid-December.

Affordably priced at $79 to $98, OC Desk has the capabilities to fit iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 (upgrade kit is priced at $98) and will be available for purchase at

Dock Your iPad in the Wall

Since the arrival of the iPod a decade ago, dock accessories have become very popular and creative. That cleverness has made it to the iPad with the new iRoom iDock. Unlike any other dock, Bracketron has gone into the sheet rock and put in a “fully powered, motorized in-wall iPad mounting solution” as it refers to it. The dock comes in three colors including brushed aluminum, piano black and opal white or can be customized to match your wall. Both the iPad and iPad 2 can take advantage of the iRoom iDock in either portrait or landscape docking.

Perfect for hotels, hospitals, restaurants, boardrooms, doctor offices, corporate entrances, and retails settings, the iRoom iDock can definitely remove clutter from a desk and add a touch of elegance to any wall. While I’m not sure how this would fit into walls of private homes, it would be cool to dock your iPad next to your bed in the wall.

No pricing information is given in the below press release but you can count on it being close in cost of the bottom of the line iPad.

Minneapolis, MN – September 21, 2011– Bracketron, the leader in mounting solutions and accessories for mobile consumer electronics, announces the North American availability of the iRoom iDock, the first powered and motorized in-wall mounting solution for iPad on the market today. Available in portrait and landscape models, the iDock can be flush-mounted to seamlessly and stylishly integrate the iPad into any room. A patented motorized docking system opens and closes the iDock to securely store the iPad, and the dock also includes both power and composite audio internal connections. The mount’s faceplate (bezel) comes in three sleek colors including brushed aluminum, piano black and opal white, or can be color customized so that the bezel perfectly matches your unique interior design. Compatible with both iPad and iPad 2, iDock Landscape and iDock Portrait are available now through Bracketron, the official and exclusive distributor for iRoom iDock in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

“The iRoom iDock is an elegant, powered solution that fully integrates the iPad into a room’s design concept and overall function,” said Christian Johnson, Vice President of Marketing at Bracketron. “The iDock is ideal for both residential and commercial applications, and will turn any room into a truly sophisticated and connected living or work space.”

The iDock features a unique powered opening mechanism with a one-touch proximity sensor. When activated, the sensor recognizes when you are nearby and switches the iDock to the open position allowing you to insert your iPad. After ten seconds the iPad door closes again automatically. The proximity sensor can also be disabled to lock the iPad permanently in place. When the iPad is inserted into the dock, you have total control of smart home applications on the device while it is also being charged. The iDock also automatically charges the iPad battery when mounted. If you experience a power outage, the iDock simply opens automatically and releases the iPad for removal.

The iRoom iDock is integrated flush with the wall using a special flush-mounted socket. The iDock is then connected to the power supply and inserted into the flush-mounted socket. For added security, the iDock’s proximity sensor and automatic opening and closing functions can be disabled if desired. The iDock landscape model is particularly suited for viewing movies, presentations and photos on the iPad. A 30-pin connector powers the landscape version. The iDock is also external contact-friendly, which makes interesting new functions possible such as connecting the dock to a keypad or fingerprint entry system.

The continuous development of iPad applications creates new ways and opportunities to integrate iPad products every day. The iRoom iDock is an elegant solution for in-wall docking and control in:

• Private homes
• Hotels
• Hospitals
• Yachts

A new JVC iPod speaker system features a unique wraparound design, Dolby Virtual Surround, and a dock that like most docks holds an iPod vertically for music listening, but also can cradle it horizontally – ideal for widescreen viewing of video.

The iPod holder rotates for viewing video in widescreen mode and comes with four clips to hold selected iPod models. Apple announced to much excitement to developers in mid-March the ability to tap into the iPhone via its dock connector with the release of iPhone OS 3.0. Examples of uses that wooed the crowd was a blood pressure cuff when connected to the iPhone displaying a patients systolic and diastolic pressures right on the devices screen. Instantly turning the iPhone into a sphygmomanometer! Another a great app shown was an EQ controller for a speaker system (see photo) and an FM transmitter application that would find the best position on your radio for clear transmission and tune to it for iPod playback. But here we are half a year later from the announcement and a few months since the release of OS 3.0 and there’s nothing to be found of any sort in the AppStore that utilizes this ingenious feature. Nothing.

In the recent return of Steve Jobs running the dog and pony show for the Designed in Cupertino company, Apple’s iCEO positioned the iPod touch, running the iPhone OS, as a gaming device more than just an iPhone minus the phone at last months iPod update gala. That said, there was no mention of taking games to the next level with a gamepad accessory that would just attach to that connector port on the iPod touch or iPhone. One will find a developer showing off their, excuse the pun, fruits in the tune of a video featuring the iControlPad playing a first-person shooter…via a jailbroken iPhone…with no availability date. Proof of concept but Scott Forstall of Apple did the same thing with the blood pressure slide at the iPhone OS 3.0 announcement, too.

But wait! There is hope. TomTom has a nice video on its site featuring a cradle for the iPhone that assists its iPhone GPS application that I told you about way back in March. My source at TomTom tells me that this cradle, which possess a GPS antenna and speaker, that uses the iPhone Connector will be out sometime this month. If this become reality, then TomTom will be the first application to speak to hardware via the iPhone Connector on the market. I would caution you not look for it at Best Buy anytime soon but it might just show up in your pillow case while trick-or-treating at the end of the month….at Best Buy, of course.

Hopefully we’ll see a flurry of hardware devices that will take advantage of Apple’s gateway to all-things accessories such as keyboards, gamepads, speakers, and maybe even monitors for video viewing (Virgin America are you reading this?!) I have to think that Apple didn’t just put an API into the iPhone to only let a good thing die. No, I think something wonderful is upon the horizon but gosh darn it, I want it now!

Newer Technology, Inc. (NewerTech) today announced NewerTech Voyager, the world’s first “Quad Interface” SATA I/II Hard Drive Docking Station with support for four interfaces: FireWire® 800/400, USB 2.0, and eSATA. NewerTech Voyager turns any 2.5″ or 3.5″ Serial ATA (SATA) I/II hard drive up to 2.0TB into a fully bootable and hot-swappable external drive solution.

Easy & Convenient To Use

Using Voyager is so simple: just insert any standard 2.5″ or 3.5″ SATA I/II hard drive (up to 2.0TB) into Voyager’s compact docking base and select the fastest of the four interfaces supported by your computer for read/write data speeds of up to 3.0Gb/s. There’s nothing else to install or configure. Voyager saves users the time and inconvenience of installing a hard drive into a computer or using an external hard drive enclosure with limited interfaces and slower speeds.

Plug and Play Hot-Swap Ready

With the most interfaces available on the market, Voyager provides Plug and Play ease of use for a fast external hard drive solution that works with both Macs and PCs. In fact, Voyager is so easy to use, that combined with today’s low cost of hard drive storage, users can think of a bare SATA I/II drive as being as convenient to use as a flash memory card, with the same instant access benefits and the addition of huge storage capacity gains. In addition, Voyager is completely hot-swappable for consumers wanting to move multiple drives at will while their computer is on and running. Its unique design and drive eject button makes inserting, using, and removing SATA I/II hard drives a safe and effortless procedure.

Ideal Solution for Storage Archives

The ideal solution for storage archives, professional photographers, videographers, and other hard drive storage archivers will no longer need multiple drive enclosures and power supplies for every archived hard drive. “Whether consumers want to re-task an older swapped-out hard drive, need to access multiple drives, or want to add big capacity, low cost external storage capacity to their desktop, Voyager is able to travel any computer user’s data universe needs with ease,” said Grant Dahlke, NewerTech’s Product Manager. “Its design and ‘Quad Interface’ functionality offer high speed ‘slide and swap’ hard drive read/write performance and convenience never before available.”

NewerTech Voyager Features:

• Supports all 2.5″ and 3.5″ SATA I/II hard drives up to 2.0TB
• “Quad Interface” for maximum system compatibility and data transfer rates
• Data transfer rates up to 3.0Gb/s (300MB/s)
• Push button drive eject for safe hard drive removal
• Hot-Swap functionality for fast access of multiple hard drives
• Weighted base and non skid rubber feet for stable operation

• Whisper Quiet operation – no cooling fan needed
• Plug and Play with Macs and PCs

• RoHS Compliant
• One year warranty

NewerTech Voyager is priced at $99.95 MSRP and is available immediately from NewerTech’s exclusive distributor, Other World Computing (OWC®), at, as well as through the retail channel. So you’re in market for a new dock for that new iPod you just nabbed, aye? You’re kinda tired of the plain white one from Apple and all those other ones out there really don’t capture you. I mean, you’re sporty and elegant, right? So what could possible match that? Mmm, maybe the Art.Suono wireless iPod dock from David Wiener Collection (DWC). Crafted with machined aluminum and carbon fiber, DWC tells SvenOnTech that it will, “Stand out as a piece of audio jewelry wherever it’s placed.” Designed with the Ferrari feel down to including a start engine button, DWC spared no cost to bringing the most fancy dock to the iPod it could.

“The Art.Suono is designed for individuals looking for beauty, performance and exclusivity,” said DWV founder David Wiener. “It embodies our passion for extraordinary design, our obsession with technological excellence, and our belief that these qualities can be combined to create audio instruments that deliver a new experience in music listening.”

The Art.Suono isn’t all about looks. It’s about sound as well. Using technology originally engineered for recording studios and used for recordings by such artists as Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor and Paul McCartney, “The DWC-APHEX circuitry makes recorded music more “alive” by restoring the harmonics lost in compressed music files and by providing an incredible sense of spaciousness and clarity so each instrument and voice is clear and distinct.”

If this sounds like a worthy investment to add to your stereo system, the Art.Suono will be available next month for $1,499 from authorized resellers worldwide.
