Microsoft changed, forgive the pun, the playing field when it released the Kinect which has been reported Apple passed on the technology when brought to it first. Now the Kinect has come to the iPad 2 by using the built-in front-facing camera. Bringing a bit of Pitfall to your iOS device, Fuego’s River Adventure pits Fuego on a raft against crocodiles and other obsticles to dodge using your body movement. The video above shows the came in action and how from children to adults it makes for a new entertaining way to use your iPad 2.

Crimson Apps, the author of this Kinect-like game, is releasing this game changer on sale for $1.99 as an introductory price. It plans on putting the technology into an SDK so you can expect more iPad 2 and even iPhone 4 and 4S compatible games coming soon.

Libratone_AirPlay.jpeg

I love, LOVE, Scandinavian furniture and have since I was kid. Hey, with a Swedish name, one has to, right? A walk through IKEA always gives me flashbacks to when I was a kid while in Germany and I always remember how my sweet parents spent thousands on a custom Scandinavian bed for me as a teen that I still miss to this day. Now, that same stunning look and simplicity comes to speakers for your iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and even iTunes on your Mac or PC. Utilizing AirPlay from Apple, Libratone debuts it’s AirPlay enabled sounds systems that, “boast exceptional sound and minimalistic Scandinavian design made from hand-picked materials including Italian cashmere, and chrome.” One look at these blocks and you don’t have to look any further for beauty. While Libratone shafted us on any specifications in its press release, it certainly didn’t prepare us for the staggering prices. The “cheappy” clocks in at $700 and the top of the line will set you back $1,300! But hey, it’s Scandinavian, right?

It’s often said that the best security is the most obvious security. Here is such an example of that with the Original V-Neck Sleeves for your Apple MacBooks, iPhones, and iPads. Taking the concept of hiding something of value in something of little value, Computer Apparel created a case that allows you to slip in your device and its accessories in a venue that does not attract attention like the common “Steal me!” computer bags that litter airports, schools, and coffee shops around the nation. Most will glance at a shirt and walk right by it as they near that computer bag in the corner. The V-Neck Sleeve continues to protect your investment from common injuries incurred when, um, naked and shirtless.

My only reservation for the shirt is most people do not travel around with neatly folded shirts; however, if placed in a case or a hotel drawer, yes, this would fool the average thief for sure.

The only thing that could have made this even better is if it were a black mock shirt such as the late Steve Jobs use to wear. But maybe that will appear as a special edition.

LOS ANGELES, CA – October 18, 2011 – Computer Apparel announces the next
generation in business casual with their Original V-Neck Sleeves, designed
to protect Apple laptops, iPhones, and iPads in style. This perfectly
tailored v-neck tee offers Mac enthusiasts a fashion-forward alternative to
the common computer case. Made from high-quality cottons and ultra-soft
padding, the Original V-Neck Sleeve is not only a safe fit for computers and
tablets, but it is also a machine washable one. Equipped with convenient
pockets to stow chargers, papers, and even a place for an iPhone, this is
one computer sleeve that will never go out of style.

“We wanted to create something that was fun, fashionable, and most
importantly, of quality,” says Roger Ein of Computer Apparel. “The V-Neck
Sleeve offers superior protection, convenience, and even security, meaning
it is easy to mistake the V-Neck Sleeve for an actual folded up v-neck
t-shirt.”

However, the playful Original V-Neck Sleeve is not the only top shelf
product to expect from Computer Apparel. The up-and-coming company is
bursting at the seams with new and exciting computer sleeve ideas.

“We have hundreds of ideas for new computer sleeve fashions,” says Ein.
“The Original V-Neck Sleeve is just the beginning. Imagine an entire
wardrobe for your computer; that’s Computer Apparel.”

For now, the off the cuff computer sleeves are just the tech trend to turn
heads. Available in four sizes and five vibrant colors, there is a V-Neck
Sleeve suited for every personality. Whether it is stowed snuggly in a
suitcase or discretely in a drawer, Apple owners can rest assured their
computers are protected and looking good with the Original V-Neck Sleeve
from Computer Apparel.

iRoom_iDock.jpeg

Since the arrival of the iPod a decade ago, dock accessories have become very popular and creative. That cleverness has made it to the iPad with the new iRoom iDock. Unlike any other dock, Bracketron has gone into the sheet rock and put in a “fully powered, motorized in-wall iPad mounting solution” as it refers to it. The dock comes in three colors including brushed aluminum, piano black and opal white or can be customized to match your wall. Both the iPad and iPad 2 can take advantage of the iRoom iDock in either portrait or landscape docking.

Perfect for hotels, hospitals, restaurants, boardrooms, doctor offices, corporate entrances, and retails settings, the iRoom iDock can definitely remove clutter from a desk and add a touch of elegance to any wall. While I’m not sure how this would fit into walls of private homes, it would be cool to dock your iPad next to your bed in the wall.

No pricing information is given in the below press release but you can count on it being close in cost of the bottom of the line iPad.

Minneapolis, MN – September 21, 2011– Bracketron, the leader in mounting solutions and accessories for mobile consumer electronics, announces the North American availability of the iRoom iDock, the first powered and motorized in-wall mounting solution for iPad on the market today. Available in portrait and landscape models, the iDock can be flush-mounted to seamlessly and stylishly integrate the iPad into any room. A patented motorized docking system opens and closes the iDock to securely store the iPad, and the dock also includes both power and composite audio internal connections. The mount’s faceplate (bezel) comes in three sleek colors including brushed aluminum, piano black and opal white, or can be color customized so that the bezel perfectly matches your unique interior design. Compatible with both iPad and iPad 2, iDock Landscape and iDock Portrait are available now through Bracketron, the official and exclusive distributor for iRoom iDock in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

“The iRoom iDock is an elegant, powered solution that fully integrates the iPad into a room’s design concept and overall function,” said Christian Johnson, Vice President of Marketing at Bracketron. “The iDock is ideal for both residential and commercial applications, and will turn any room into a truly sophisticated and connected living or work space.”

The iDock features a unique powered opening mechanism with a one-touch proximity sensor. When activated, the sensor recognizes when you are nearby and switches the iDock to the open position allowing you to insert your iPad. After ten seconds the iPad door closes again automatically. The proximity sensor can also be disabled to lock the iPad permanently in place. When the iPad is inserted into the dock, you have total control of smart home applications on the device while it is also being charged. The iDock also automatically charges the iPad battery when mounted. If you experience a power outage, the iDock simply opens automatically and releases the iPad for removal.

The iRoom iDock is integrated flush with the wall using a special flush-mounted socket. The iDock is then connected to the power supply and inserted into the flush-mounted socket. For added security, the iDock’s proximity sensor and automatic opening and closing functions can be disabled if desired. The iDock landscape model is particularly suited for viewing movies, presentations and photos on the iPad. A 30-pin connector powers the landscape version. The iDock is also external contact-friendly, which makes interesting new functions possible such as connecting the dock to a keypad or fingerprint entry system.

The continuous development of iPad applications creates new ways and opportunities to integrate iPad products every day. The iRoom iDock is an elegant solution for in-wall docking and control in:

• Private homes
• Hotels
• Hospitals
• Yachts
• Restaurants
• Boardrooms
• Retail
• Medical practices

The iDock features brilliant design, engineering and high quality materials, and is manufactured to the most stringent European standards. All iRoom products come with a two-year warranty. line2_ipad.jpg

I’ve heard many times that one of the disappointing features missing from the iPad is the lack of a phone. While I disagree with this notion, Line2 corrects it. Today Line2 turns your iPad, “into a full-featured desktop phone,” according to the press release, shown below. It will add a VoIP phone line, texting, and full access to your contacts all from within the application itself. Founder and CEO Peter Sisson boasts, “I’ve completely replaced my office deskphone, using the iPad 2’s built in speakers and mic as a speakerphone and a Bluetooth headset for more private conversations.”

At $9.95 a month for the basic plan that gives you unlimited phone calls and texting to the US and Canada, this is a pretty good deal. There is a Pro plan that tacks on, “auto attendant, call screening, ability to route calls to multiple phones simultaneously, caller-specific call forwarding, after-hours settings, and Mac/PC-based calling for just $14.95/month.”

A free seven-day trail is also included with the free app download.

View Press Release »

San Francisco, CA — The iPad changed the way we consume media on a mobile device. Now Line2 is transforming the tablet into a mobile communications hub with the introduction of Line2 for iPad. Line2 for iPad turns the device into a mobile office at one’s fingertips by adding a phone line, then seamlessly organizing your various communication channels around the people with whom you communicate. Instead of trying to hunt down a message across multiple applications, you now have a snapshot view of your communications for each individual right in front of you.

Line2 adds a fully-featured phone line to the iPad that can place and receive calls and carrier-grade text messages over the device’s data connections (Wi-Fi or 3G). If the iPad does not have a data connection, calls can be automatically forwarded to up to six other phones so that customers can ensure that they never miss an important call.

“The iPad has been our best-converting platform for new customer signups. Following our customers’ lead, we’ve created a brand new version of Line2 from the ground up to take advantage of the unique capabilities of the iPad. We invented a new type of communications device,” said Peter Sisson, Founder and CEO of Line2. “I’ve completely replaced my office deskphone, using the iPad 2’s built in speakers and mic as a speakerphone and a Bluetooth headset for more private conversations.”

With Line2 you can place calls using a wired headset, Bluetooth headset (on iPad 2 only), or over the iPad’s speakerphone. Line2, combined with the iPad’s powerful built-in speakers and microphone, makes for an amazing on-the-go business tool for conference calls with multiple people in the room. Just set the iPad down on the table in a group meeting and it’s like having a high-grade conference phone with an abundance of additional features.

No other iPad app offers the features and functionality of Line2. The app is packed with advanced calling features, including full caller ID support, the ability to juggle multiple calls, visual voicemail, voicemail by email, call waiting, call transfer, and conferences for up to 20 people. You can even multitask while using Line2 and perform other tasks while on a call, or receive calls while engaged in other activities on the iPad.

Line2’s Wi-Fi capabilities allow international travelers to place and receive calls while overseas without incurring any additional charges. Using Line2, calls to any number back home will be free, as will calls to other Line2 users, wherever they are worldwide. Line2’s Wi-Fi call quality is also better than traditional cellular quality, and Wi-Fi calls between two Line2 customers use 16-kHz HD audio for crystal clear sound quality that is stunning to experience.

Line2 offers a free 7 day trial with an account created at the Line2 website. After the trial, service costs just $9.95/month for the basic plan with unlimited US/Canada calling and texting, or $99.50 for a one year pre-paid plan. Also available is the Line2 Pro plan, which comes with all of the features of Line2 plus an auto attendant, call screening, ability to route calls to multiple phones simultaneously, caller-specific call forwarding, after-hours settings, and Mac/PC-based calling for just $14.95/month or $149.50 per year. These plans are available through the Line2 website with credit card billing.

About Line2
Line2 is solving communication problems one app at a time. The company, headquartered in San Francisco, creates innovative communications services for professionals, with high-end features and world-class live customer support. What started off as an April Fools joke has turned into an actual product, the iCADE. ThinkGeek brings you the ability to play your installed video games with a joystick and in 80s retro style. Reminiscent of the old arcade floor models of the 1980s, iCADE brings nostalgia and easy game play to your iPad via Bluetooth. While I LOVE the idea behind iCADE, I do not like the price before it. $100 is a lot of money to ask for a joystick in my opinion. Additionally, it only works with the Atari gaming suite at this point. I’ll wait for these to appear on eBay at a discount, like half, before picking one up.

Press Release
FAIRFAX, VA – June 27, 2011 – ThinkGeek is proud to announce the availability of one of its most anticipated April Fools’ products to date, the iCADE gaming cabinet. This sturdy, retro-styled cabinet is designed specifically to house an Apple® iPad® or iPad® 2 and will transport users to the days when they spent endless hours playing classic arcade games!

“We partnered with ION Audio to make our vision of the iCADE a reality,” says Ty Liotta, head of ThinkGeek’s GeekLabs. “After it was announced as an April Fool’s Day joke back in 2010, thousands of our customers wanted it and we’re excited to make it a reality through this partnership.”

The iCADE is a desktop-sized arcade game cabinet that features a fully-functional gamepad, complete with retro arcade joystick and buttons. Gameplay is made simple by just sliding an iPad into the built-in cradle and connecting it to the iCADE via Bluetooth. The iCade is powered by two AA batteries. The ThinkGeek iCADE also features the original April Fool’s Day retro style graphics.

Users can play classic Atari games available now for download from the Apple App Store℠. In preparation for this release, Atari released 100 of its Classic games for use with the iCADE. Atari was able to configure the games for compatibility with the iCADE, including beloved games like Pong, Asteroids, Centipede and many more.

The iCADE now joins ThinkGeek’s other April Fool’s Day pranks that have made it into the real world, including the Tauntaun Sleeping Bag, My First Bacon, Unicorn Meat, Personal Soundtrack Shirt, and the 8-bit Tie.

Following the launch of the major new version of WritePad for iPad last month, PhatWare has released an update of WritePad for iPhone to bring the same powerful features, including synchronization of WritePad documents with Evernote. WritePad is PhatWare’s popular note taking and handwriting recognition software for iPad and iPhone devices.

In addition to Evernote synchronization, WritePad 5 now offers an improved handwriting recognition engine with a letter shape selector, which may reduce the user’s learning curve, and adds the ability to upload WritePad documents to Google Docs and send SMS directly from WritePad.

“WritePad’s text editing apps for iOS provide an intuitive, innovative way to take notes on mobile devices”, said Seth Hitchings, Evernote’s VP of Platform Strategy. “Allowing users to synchronize their notes with Evernote means that notes taken in WritePad become available everywhere, whether it’s across mobile devices or on the desktop. We’re excited to have WritePad join our partner community and provide our users with new ways to capture information.”

WritePad is an advanced note-taker for iOS, which converts practically any handwriting into computer text. Notes created with WritePad can be send via email or SMS, Tweeted, saved, posted on a Facebook Wall, printed, exported as PDF, translated to other languages, synchronized with Dropbox, and exchanged directly between two or more iOS devices. WritePad also features integration with events, contacts, maps, and other iPhone resources.

With WritePad, users can:
· Create and edit text documents using the advanced handwriting recognition engine or iPhone keyboard for text entry in landscape or portrait mode.

ThinkGeek :: iCADE - iPad Arcade Cabinet

What started off as an April’s Fool joke has turned into a bonifide product from the crazy folks at ThinkGeek. The idea was to place an iPad into a miniature arcade game console and turn the iPad into an actual retro gamers paradise. Well, response was overwhelming and ThinkGeek figured that since they came, we’ll build it. Teaming up with Atari and it’s Greatest Hits package of yesteryear games, ThinkGeek will allow you to play Asteroids, Centipede, and nearly 100 games just like you did in the old days with a five-position joystick and rounded buttons. Now what geek that grew up in the 80s wouldn’t want this for their iPad? Heck, what geek wouldn’t buy an iPad just for this?

I was hot to place the iCADE into my shopping cart until I saw the price. $100. Yikes, for a joystick, a few buttons, and Bluetooth connectivity? Oh ya, the “wood” case and graphics. Dude, that’s a bit too pricey for my taste. To tell you the truth, I’m not sure I’d even grab one for half the price. Well, maybe.

I’m curious how well this will sell, especially when that’s a tank of gas to most people today, in this tough economy. Still, it’s a great idea that I hope sticks around so that when I can afford it, I may just get it to relive those glory days in the local arcade.
