Audiophile quality sound with in-wall invisibility. What once seemed like a contradiction is a reality with the introduction of the high-performance Jamo IW 827 LCR custom speaker, thanks to the use of award-winning Concert Series C 800 components.
Utilizing the key engineering principles that have made the Concert Series speakers a popular choice for movie and music enthusiasts, the IW 827 LCR is a versatile design that can be used as left, right and center channel speakers in an advanced home theater/audio system.
Core Concert Series technologies, such as Decoupled Tweeter Technology (DTT), WaveGuide, Hard Conical Cones (HCC), Active Impedance Correction (AIC) and solid aluminum center plugs are all found in these high-performance models. Created for audio purists, their quality and attention to detail reflects Jamo’s highly focused approach to custom products.
The IW 827 LCR is a 2.5-way design with a 1-inch DTT silk dome tweeter located between the 7-inch woofer and a 7-inch midrange/woofer—both featuring high-end fiberglass/honeycomb composite drivers. This design, coupled with a unique crossover, achieves excellent vertical sound dispersion without the midrange cancellation that can happen in a traditional two-way speaker’s woofer/tweeter/woofer layout.
The driver configuration gives it a slightly downward optimal listening angle; in other words, it can be installed next to a flat panel TV or alone, relatively high on a wall, and still deliver optimal audio to those seated in the room.
According to director of product planning Rune Karsbaek, the IW 827 LCR is consistent with Jamo’s overall philosophy, despite being an in-wall product. “While we’re widely known for the beautiful Danish design of our cabinets, our unique, open Danish sound is just as important. These speakers reproduce music and soundtracks with all the vibrancy of our Concert Series, but also provide a discreet, built-in solution for any living space.”
For installations that require a sealed back box, the speaker has an available two-part enclosure. The halves are identical and are lined with damping material. By using separate boxes for the upper woofer and lower woofer/midrange, the possibility of mid- and low-frequency interference is greatly reduced.
The IW 827 LCR is scheduled for release next month. It is priced at $799 (U.S. MSRP) each; the optional two-part back box is $199 (U.S. MSRP).
About exclusive Jamo technologies:
# Decoupled Tweeter Technology (DTT): A mounting system that prevents unwanted cabinet and wall vibrations that can cloud or color sound.
# Hard Conical Cones (HCC): This technology allows for extremely low distortion throughout the range, as well as creates a very open and detailed mid-range for optimum voice reproduction.
# WaveGuide: This technology, which involves the shape of the tweeter’s faceplate, helps control the sound pattern for a more open and dynamic experience, as well as makes it easier to position the speakers in a room.
# Active Impedance Correction: AIC results in reduced distortion in electrodynamic speakers, reducing roughness for clearer midrange, particularly in vocals.
A smaller, more affordable version of the Jamo R 909, the new R 907 tower speaker is also designed for the true audiophile—but designed to work brilliantly where space is at a premium. Like the R 909, the R 907 features dipolar engineering, which means that sound is distributed from both the front and the back of the speaker. The reflected audio from the rear adds ambience and gives the impression of a much larger room—in other words, a more lifelike, live performance sound.
Dipolar loudspeakers have existed for many years; most of them have been electrostatic designs. However, electrostatic technology has one significant drawback: bass frequency reproduction is compromised. They simply aren’t able to produce the characteristic physical bass “thwack” you feel in your midriff. The Jamo Reference R 907 audio tower uses electrodynamic speakers instead of electrostatics—and the results are amazing. The exceptionally firm, deep bass and concert-like high end dynamics put you in the middle of the soundstage.
By using 12-inch woofers rather than the 15-inch drivers found in the R 909, Jamo engineers were able to make the R 907 approximately 20 percent shorter and 15 percent slimmer than the larger model—and even more ideal for smaller living spaces.
Available in striking high-gloss red or black finishes, the R 907 is sure to attract attention as much for its unique look as for its incredibly detailed sound reproduction. The open design allows you to see the quality components that make the Jamo R 907 so remarkable: the two woofers, the Hard Conical Cone midrange driver and the premium tweeter. From deep, precise bass to startlingly concert-like vocals, we’ve spared no expense to deliver sound in its purest form—and the evidence is clear at a glance.
The Jamo development team was given a mission: to “translate” the design and the acoustic characteristics of the R 909 into a new, less space-demanding speaker system. Like its bigger brother, the R 907’s sound quality is very open and dynamic, with extremely low distortion throughout the entire range. It features a highly-detailed midrange with optimal voice reproduction, and a firm, powerful bass, unmatched by mass-produced dipolar speakers.
The Reference Series offers pure works of art that demonstrate superior power handling and audio quality. With their refined sound, both the R 909 and R 907 are, without a doubt, designed exclusively for those discriminating listeners who prefer high end speakers that deliver perfect two-channel sound.
