Symptom Navigator empowers consumers to make the best use of the healthcare system and understand when self-care or a doctor visit is appropriate. To access the Symptom Navigator on the iPhone, visit http://iphone.adam.com. The tool offers possible causes of the symptom and medical condition, how to self treat, when it is an emergency, when you should call a doctor, and how to prevent it in the future.

“Consumers expect information at their fingertips, at all times, and being able to deliver healthcare information to mobile devices is of real value to users,” said Greg Juhn, senior vice president of product development at A.D.A.M., Inc. “Whether you are travelling on vacation with your kids or on a business trip and feeling ill, an extensive library of symptom guidance will now just be a tap away on your iPhone.”

A.D.A.M. engineered this web application version of its Symptom Navigator for optimal display on the iPhone, taking full advantage of its revolutionary Multi-Touch interface. After selecting a symptom, the user is walked through the possible causes, home care, when to consult your doctor, and what to expect from your doctor. This data is provided by A.D.A.M. from their medically reviewed, evidence-based and URAC accredited Health Encyclopedia. A.D.A.M. owns one of the largest consumer health libraries in the world.

“Healthcare information on-the-go is important to today’s increasingly mobile society. A.D.A.M.’s Symptom Navigator for the iPhone brings high-quality medical information to consumers anytime, anywhere,” said Dr. Alan Greene, FAAP, chief medical officer of A.D.A.M., one of the “Top 25 Most Influential Forces in Healthcare IT” (Advanced for Health Information Executives), author and popular health commentator for national television. “A.D.A.M.’s new Symptom Navigator for the iPhone represents the wave of the future for mobile healthcare technology applications, which will help transform the consumer-directed healthcare experience over the next several years. Everyone should have Symptom Navigator as a home button on their iPhone.”

The Symptom Navigator for the iPhone was adapted from A.D.A.M.’s popular standard edition of its Symptom Navigator, which is available on such prestigious medical Web sites as Duke University Health System, Loma Linda University Medical Center, Methodist Medical Center, the University of Wisconsin Health and thousands of Benergy employee portals. From CTIA WIRELESS 2008, Verizon Wireless, the nation’s leading wireless service provider, and “TMZ,”, the number one new first-run syndicated television program of the 2007–2008 season, are teaming up to bring “TMZ” TV to mobile phones for the first time via a new “TMZ” branded channel on Verizon Wireless’ V CAST Video service. The “TMZ” television program is based upon the entertainment news Web site TMZ.com, a joint venture of Warner Bros. Television Group’s Telepictures Productions and AOL.

Beginning today, commercial-free video segments from the “TMZ” television program will be available to mobile users for the first time as Verizon Wireless debuts a “TMZ” channel on V CAST Video. The channel features clips from the hottest segments on “TMZ,” 24 hours after their daily broadcast in the television program. “TMZ” TV will be available on Verizon Wireless V CAST Video-enabled handsets in the Entertainment section under the Flix & Gossip category. Verizon Wireless is the inaugural on-deck distribution partner for the launch of “TMZ” TV.

“TMZ” TV will be presented in a series of video clips so that customers can catch up with their favorite show – even if they are on-the-go, with just a few minutes to spare.

Brett Bouttier, Senior Vice President, Digital, Warner Bros. Television Group, said, “The TMZ brand is now fully accessible on three screens to its loyal audience and exposed to everyone, everywhere. Verizon Wireless’ V CAST Video service is a top notch video platform and a perfect fit for a TMZ branded channel that keeps clips from the daily TMZ television series always at the fingertips of our ever-expanding audience.”

Jennifer Byrne, director of V CAST Video and social media for Verizon, said, “Our goal with V CAST Video is to bring leading entertainment to our customers. The debut of ‘TMZ’ TV on V CAST Video fits perfectly with that vision, offering our customers the latest in entertaining and compelling content.”

“TMZ” debuted in Sept. 2007 with the Fox Owned Television Stations – including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago – serving as the show’s primary launch group. “TMZ” immediately became the number one new first-run syndicated series of the season, and in its most recent week of national ratings (March 17–23, 2008), it delivered a 2.3 Household rating and topped all syndicated magazine programs in ratings among Adults 18-34 (1.2), Women 18-34 (1.4, tied) and Men 18-34 (1.0).

Customers with select V CAST-enabled phones can check out V CAST whenever they want for just $3.00 for 24-hour use or by signing up for the $15.00 V CAST VPak monthly subscription, which also includes access to Verizon Wireless’ ESPN MVP, Get It Now® and Mobile Web 2.0SM services. Customers get unlimited basic video, including “TMZ” TV, but application download fees apply for 3D games and premium video. There are no airtime or megabyte charges to download, stream or watch V CAST content with any V CAST subscription.

radioframe logo

RadioFrame Networks, the
leader in small footprint, low cost wireless base stations, announced
that its software-controlled S-Series picocell solution will be deployed
by European mobile market leader Orange from the start of 2008.
RadioFrame’s S-Series product will power Orange’s recently announced
Onsite Coverage service and is expected to be the first mobile solution
to be widely deployed specifically for enhanced coverage to smaller
remote and inaccessible business locations in Europe.

RadioFrame and Orange have been trialing the service with customers
since mid-2007 with positive results. Expected to be more cost efficient
to deploy, Orange’s Onsite Coverage service adds to the existing Orange
product portfolio and will improve coverage to mobile customers of all
sizes. Most importantly, coverage enhancements will result in mobile
coverage in even the most difficult to cover areas such as those
challenged by hilly terrain, concrete, steel or offices that are below
ground level. The solution can also boost existing capacity in urban
areas with dense phone usage such as shopping centers or large office
blocks.

“For several years now, RadioFrame has been developing breakthrough
technology for wireless network operators that improves service quality
and reduces time to market and network deployment costs,” said
RadioFrame Networks Chief Executive Officer Jeff Brown. “We are mindful
that as we develop interesting technology, however, it only matters when
the solutions are deployed commercially. For a wireless network operator
of Orange’s size and reputation to begin commercial deployment of our
technology is a significant milestone for RadioFrame and an indication
of the bright prospects of the indoor coverage solution industry as a
whole.”

Android Cell Phone Capture.jpg

Verizon, that very same company that said no to Apple three years ago to its unknown iPhone, has changed course with Google’s open source operating system for mobile devices, Android. Maybe Verizon has learned from its Apple mistake and now will bring something unique to its strip-mall stores across the nation. Chief Executive Officer Lowell McAdam says it now makes sense to get behind Android. “We’re planning on using Android,” McAdam tells BusinessWeek. “Android is an enabler of what we do.”

Ya, I bet it does make sense, Lowell!

If you haven’t seen much on Android, take a look at Google’s Code site for videos and such about it. The visual global time (spin the globe with your finger ala iPhone!) and SkyPop (locate your other Android using friends in real-time) alone are worth considering dumping your iPhone! Oh ya, did I mention it’ll be 3G on the get-go? :)
